FULL Moon...Over Washington State

Post by Kona2 » January 28th, 2013, 9:30 pm

Hooboy...marathon fever.....all it takes is a Challenge that is a REALLY big stretch, and our teammates start thinking about other challenges...and before you know it, we've got full moons and half moons and red giants and even a supernova appearing in the skies above our rowing universe. Mike C has been a teammate for a few seasons now, and every so often a half marathon gets thrown out there...but I don't remember recent history of a full marathon.

Meanwhile, AJ had been updating some of the caricatures, and he noticed that Mike C was going to be within striking distance of getting an oar with a 200K effort. When I saw the caricature of Mike (AJ has his ways of finding people...), I was sure that AJ had found his long lost brother (although AJ seems to have gotten the naturally curly hair gene more so than almost brother Mike).

Congratulations on completing a FULL marathon, Mike !

With that in mind I'm going to hit the rower again tomorrow, and see how many more meters I can put into the team total before the deadline. Go Luna-tics!!!
Hah! "Maybe there should be a glass of wine in Jodi's cartoon's hand" was actually discussed, over a glass of wine, last night during dinner at our house.
Ah yes, my glass of wine. :D That picture was taken at a family reunion in NYC a few years ago and brings back good memories. I think I will have that glass of celebratory wine. :D

Making an adjustment to today's meters since there were some data streams that were passing through Concept2 at the time of the upload...and they didn't show up when I first pulled the data. I'm always glad to add more meters -- especially those with lots of the same number...! Way to row to Jodi for adding another ImageImageImageImageImage m :D to our totals for the day AND getting past the 400K milestone!!

Another Canoe... it's Kristine Strasburger.!!

Post by Kona2 » January 29th, 2013, 6:01 pm

Woohoo! Deadline driven (many can relate)! Capt Kristine is sporting some of the best hair in the ArMOONda - and many will recall the first time that the ArMOONda sailed that with each increase in meterage (is this a word?!), and move to a new boat...the hair got bigger. Loved it! Kristine was sidelined with a respiratory bug for about three weeks of this Challenge. She shows what she's made of though - and powers through it to her canoe! Well done!

In my opinion, Henrik's wrists are flat. The bend you see looks to me to be more of a natural horizontal bend /rotation due to the pull through and the angle the forearm makes at the finish with his elbows out. When Concept 2 is referring to "flat" wrists, my understanding is that they are refering to not bending the wrists in a vertical up and down movement (also referred to as breaking the wrists). I'm an on the water rower, and if I break my wrist in the boat it changes the height of the oar off the water and you don't want the oar to be too high off the water. When erging you want to be mindful of the same thing. You don't want to break the wrist at the finish resulting in the handle dropping towards your lap.

If you have to row with a brace, it may have an impact on how well you can finish therefore affecting your time. However, people are resiliant and you have probably learned how to maximize your efforts even though you wear a brace/braces. If the braces allow you to row, don't fret it. We'd rather have you row than not row.

Thanks, Karyn. That all makes sense to me and now I can see what you mean. And yes, anything that keeps me rowing....
