Hi Folks!

My rowing machine (guess I should start calling it an erg) arrived today and I think I've got things set up correctly to join you for the VTC. I'm not sure how many meters I'll log as the next few days will be spent learning to row and getting a sense for my starting point. I've done a bunch of reading on proper technique and suggestions for getting started over the last week or so, but I may still have questions from time to time. These forums (and this team) seem like a great place to participate to keep me engaged an motivated.

I'll set my goal to row on 17 of the remaining 22 days in the month and see how it goes from there. Cheers!

Hi Brad, and welcome to the challenge team!!! You've made an excellent investment in your health and fitness -- and joining a team is definitely the way to go to help stay motivated! We've got some great rowers in our ranks -- some quite serious and some like me that use it more for cross-training, but we all share the common goal of getting and staying healthy. You mention reading about technique, but there are also great videos here and on YouTube that can help a lot as well, so I hope you check them out as well.

If you enjoy our company during the VTC, please consider joining our year-round affiliation as well -- we're known in that list as TimBukTOO. We report stats daily and have fun with all the team and individual challenges too.

Welcome aboard!!

Hello. I am Karen and I just joined. My Concept2 just arrived yesterday so I will begin rowing tonight after work. Needed batteries so just sort of stared in awe at the machine last night. I havve rowed as part of CrossFit WODS but that is about it. Loved it. I hope to lose weight and gain fitness. I ahve about 90 pounds to lose and have lost a good 70 already doing other stuff...including a trek to Mount Everest base Camp in 2012. I look forward to the fun. Hope to be a team asset as well!

Welcome aboard, Karen!! And congratulations to you as well on a great fitness commitment. And what an exciting way to get fit -- in the Himalaya! I know we have another member who has been trekking there as well. What a well-traveled bunch we are... Some of us anyway! B)

Congratulations as well on your weight loss progress. That's really remarkable. I wish you every continued success, and hope TimBukTOO can be a part of that!

Thanks you Barb! I am starting with 400 today and adding 200 a day until Saturday when I will do 1k and my kettle bells. I did NOTHING since getting back from Everest and really have a way to go but over the first month should get to a place where I can push pretty dang hard. :)

Wow Base Camp - would love to go there.

Went to Machu Picchu via the "high" route last year and the altitude was brutal. Aclimatising in Cusco I felt like somebody was sitting on my chest. Good thing there weren't any ergs in the hotel gym :)

Hello Johnathan. I had a great experience in the Himalayas and wish I had maintianed my fitness level. Got sick and it took about 2 months to recover from the overall trek etc. Then life got in the way. Knew I had to buickle down and make it happen so busted loose with 900 simoleans to get this rowing rig. I had used them in CrossFit during Everest prep so knew I loved them. Machu Picu is my next adventure! Hopefully 2015 for that.

I ahve had the big bad flu since the 30th so that combined with my general lack of fitness made yesterdays 400 meters feel like I was at altitude..vegas is only at 2,402 feet so I should be just fine.....

Lisa,
It looks like I'm not going to make make my goal for this challenge so if you don't mind putting me back in the slacker boat for the time being. Life has gotten in the way of my rowing time for the last couple of weeks and probably will for a little while longer. Hopefully I won't lose all those gains that I made this fall......Warren F.
