What a fine Holiday Challenge this was ! Haven't double checked, but am pretty sure we had 72 reindeer, and many, MANY participants who may input some additional meters in the next day. The Concept2 donations have already passed the $30 K mark. Last year, we were at $27 K and some change ....then the additional meters were added to push the total well over...and Concept2 matched that excess. Excellent! Of course, now all the reindeer will be heading back to their virtual locations very soon. We'll do a wrap up of the Challenge data when the time period for meter submission officially ends.

There were some Christmas day rowers! And we can give a great team welcome to Kiba's dad, Ernie, who is joining our year round rowing team. How cool !

Season meters as of 238/365 = 107,303,460 m

Total meters on the day = 134,687 m

Oars in space (participation) = 11 percent

Want to report success at last on the ice luminary project - and encourage those of you who live in climates cold enough to make ice outside, to give it a go! It was very fun - well, it was fun after it worked. My favorite was the green one, yet the clear or white ones were pretty good, too. The red....need more food coloring in that water ! If you want to make any that have food coloring in them, recommend that you put something under them to catch the melting ice...that food coloring will stain...(I remembered). We had a white Christmas - only happens 14 percent of the time here in Colorado that we get snowfall on Christmas. Lucky year !!

Crazy weather indeed, Barbara! Blizzards in Little Rock?! I'll bet Jim has a bunch of snow, too. Tornadoes in Alabama! Snowfall everywhere from North Carolina to Maine (and a lot of it judging from the number of airport delays and cancellations)....and summrrr in Australia and New Zealand (well, that's normal for this time of year). Lots of good snow in the Grand Lake area...so much so, had to hike in from the road (picture dogs bounding, cat in kitty carrier voicing displeasure). A few hours of snow removal will definitely get the heart rate up!

Thanks for volunteering to be our virtual bartender for the end of calendar year virtual New Year's Eve team forum party, Jane....PARTY in the forum, woohoo!! I'd like a drink that glows with the light of the Universe ... we can call it a glowing Cosmos. Get out the black lights!

Meanwhile, an increasing number of teammates are finding their way back to the ergs following holiday celebrations.

Hey Everybody! I know I've been MIA for a while now, but rowing while pregnant is kind of impossible. The baby's six weeks now so I'm looking forward to getting back on the rower. I'm sure it will be slow going for a while, but I can't wait to get back on it (and lose all the lousy baby weight!). Hope you all had a great Christmas.

Welcome back Mary ! And congratulations on your baby! Stork was busy this year with the team. We'll look forward to seeing your name pop up on the roster - which it won't do until you give the erg chain a pull (even if it is only 100 m, you'll show up on the roster that way).

I've been MIA for a while as well, but my excuse isn't nearly as good as Mary's :D I was just way too busy between starting a new part-time job, an online class, out of town runs, traveling to Virginia in November for our granddaughter's 4th birthday and then the holidays I just didn't have a lot of spare time. I tried to get enough meters in to count for the holiday challenge, but fell 30,000+ short. It just didn't work out this year. But I'm excited to get back into regular workouts, and hopefully my new Christmas present of an attachment to hold my iPod Touch that connects to the PM3, and utilizes the new ERG data app, will prevent further problems with having to disconnect my PM3 in order to record my workouts.
I need to go back and read the previous posts because I'm so out of touch with what's been happening with you guys. I hope everyone is well, and rowing healthy! And thanks to Richard for checking up on me during my long absence, I appreciate it.

His name is Henry James and he's doing well. He was 10lb 3oz when he was born... so there's a decent start to losing the 60 I gained while pregnant (did the same thing with my daughter, too). I'm still having some pelvic stability issues but I'm hoping rowing will help rather than hurt! Just rowed a 5k even though I was only planning on being on for half that... then my husband came home and scolded me for over-doing it on my first time back (he's a PT and is worried about my hips/pelvis). Also, it didn't occur to me until I got off the rower that I no longer have any calluses. Ouch!
