Chilly Willy was a bear,
Chilly Willy had no hair,
Chilly Willy rowed this morn,
for Timbuktoo he was forlorn

He rowed in the sleet,
he rowed in the snow
For Chilly was frigid,
Chilly was cold

He toughed it out in Sixteen degrees
With mittens, a cap and a hot coffee mug
Just enough inspiration to join the
Polar
Bear
Club

Yes, I'm the droll one who lives under the bridge. At 6' 3", I don't usually have to be diplomatic. And having married a woman who facetiously was given an award in high school for "tact and other social graces", we cut a wide swath using withering, brutal honesty. Yet, we still have lots and lots of friends - though their names elude me at this moment.
I ALWAYS think I should leave the posting to Lisa, but I can't seem to get her to agree. Maybe if I can get enough affiliation members to take up their pitchforks and torches and surround my house, she'll agree...

Seriously, though, after a week of row totals that looked like they were all intended to be 'prime numbers', seeing a row total from you that ended with not one zero but THREE invited comment. It was meant to amuse, not slight, and I'm sorry that I wrote it in a way that sounded like a put-down.

Thank you for updating Fuzzy Wuzzy for the next generation.
However, in my misspent youth, the Bear Song of note was this take off on the Andrew Sisters' hit, "Bei Mir Bist Du Schoen":

I would stay up sometimes until 3 or 4 in the morning listening to Jean Shepherd spin tales of his upbringing near Chicago (Hammond, IN). At the time, he was only famous for his book "In God We Trust - All Others Pay Cash". Now, he's much better known for his PBS special and movie, "Jean Shepherd's A Christmas Story" and his book, "Wanda Hickey's Night of Golden Memories, and Other Disasters".

I wish! I'm struggling to reach 10K while I re-break my body in again...but for this session I was the chip leader at the final table in my online poker tourney, and with at least another 1/2 hour of play to go, it's amazing what a bit of adrenalin will do! So, each time I pass 10K this month, well, gosh, I suppose you can just marvel at my skill and envy my wealth ($140,000 play chips so far!) :D

Either that, or I'm busting my butt to make sure I reach 200K. There are only 15 rowing days left until Christmas! :o

Brave lad! You may be the sole member of this particular club, unless you can prod Kyle or Jim to haul their ergs outside!

Then again, here are a couple intrepid souls for you...

But come in every once in a while or you'll end up like this guy!

Tried last week but had a setback rather than a comeback. Yesterday felt better, but I'll have to take it slowly to get back to my normal daily rows. I'll stick to a slow 5-7 k per day for a while to see how it goes - no PR's for me for a while, I'm afraid.

Oh, and I never got any PM's from you... :(

But thanks for thinking of me, regardless :)

I am supposed to be averaging 14km/day. It seems like so much at the time. When I reach for the handle, I suddenly feel a few years older. There are no easy meters on the Wolverine Plan! It is like time is threatened by my presence. That’s when 14km seems like so much, but I know that I can stop time – even reverse it – if I pull just a few strokes. Only in hindsight do I realize how little 14km actually is.

It is sobering to realize that you are 86 days into training with a 413,533 meter deficit. That’s 41,353 times you didn’t pull the handle. What got in the way?

Reality > Goals

I started this with only 140 days to train. One morning a week to bible study, one night to graduate school, and date night or happy hour and you are short 240,000 meters! Take just one weekend off a month (ex: Thanksgiving) and you are down an additional 140,000 meters! Spend 2 weeks distracting yourself with personal records and you’re down the final 33km!

I have 54 days to go.

Grit > Reality

Shall I reassess and select a less challenging goal? No. there’s still enough fire in my belly to make it.

Shall I push the distractions out of my life? What am I without them? Faster? Yes, but also empty: like a rocket with no payload.

Today will be harder than yesterday and tomorrow will be harder than today, but in hindsight, this will look easy.

There are no junk meters. Every stroke matters. See you at the races!

Andy, that was a very inspirational post! Thanks for that, and I hope you accomplish your goals! As a father of four children, husband, employee, etc., I know first-hand how hard it is to find time to row. You are definitely cranking out the meters though!

Now ... the math geek in me thinks that the only way for all three of your math formulae to be correct would be if : Goals < 0

But it was still an awesome post!

I salute you sir! The program sounds grueling. I wish I could send you some of my free time to use (not that it's that much, but seems more plentiful than yours...) Keep the fire burning!

Math? Let me borrow from Steve Bong: "You weary giants of maths and physics and engineering: you are not welcome among us. Your laws do not apply here ."

This group is really great for motivation. I don't know which pack to hunt down to satisfy my competitive side. We have the speed demons on one side that post faster and faster figures. On the other side, we have the meter junkies that spit out 50k like it is a warmup. We've got a guy rowing in freezing weather, someone else dropping weight like a weight watchers meeting, and I am a little scared about how many meters Blacksmith will post. We're building a scary team for the next challenge.
