0:28:37 27th out of 77 male runners (5k) I didn't want to attempt another half marathon, maybe the Gobbler Gallup coming later this month. Here is what I run with- Image This is exactly the rollator I have, I wish I had the one they make for rough and off road use, but it is mega expensive for someone with 10 grandkids :)

Image Just seems like that kind of day ! And throw in a hooyah, too !

Wowzer, mates! We've got a FULL Moon over Vermont, and half moons over California, Arkansas, and Ohio! And - Welcome to John D and to Katerina!

Concept2 continues to put together some great resources for us - especially as they relate to getting ready for some of the Challenges. Seems like we're always trying to fit in at least two or three more things into our holiday seasons, and exercise routines can easily get put aside for some other things. Hope you can avoid the temptation to go down that path with some planning ahead to see how to fit the Holiday Challenge into your plans.

Preparing for the Holiday Challenge

If completing 200,000 meters in a month is a new challenge for you, here are some ideas to help you prepare:

Don't be intimidated! Every year people who have never completed long distances complete the challenge.
Gradually build your workout time. Try adding an extra 1000 meters per day, especially if you don't usually complete 7000 meters at a time.
If you don't usually workout every day, try rowing/skiing for several days in a row. The workouts can be short, but see how it feels to row/ski more often.
Keep some stretching in your routine or add it if you haven't been doing it regularly.
Think about when you will fit your extra Holiday Challenge rowing/skiing into your schedule. If it requires you to workout at a different time of day than usual, try it out ahead of time to see how it feels.
Plan ahead so that you can make up any missed meters due to travel or other commitments.
Pace yourself! Many people have commented that the Holiday Challenge pushed them to row/ski more than they ever thought they could, and it felt great! On the other hand, it is not wise to make a sudden jump in the amount rowing/skiing you do, so keep this in mind. You can build your daily meters gradually, even during the challenge itself.

A cool bunny trail :) I'm one of the more uncommon A-. Enjoy giving blood, it seems like such a simple thing for me to do that can help others. Won't be able to donate again for over a month though.

Mark your calendars for Saturday, 17 November. It's time for a meteor shower...and it promises to be one of the best of the year!!

Image NEXT up: The Leonids

Leonids

Comet of Origin: 55P/Tempel-Tuttle
Radiant: constellation Leo
Active: Nov. 6-30, 2012
Peak Activity: Night of Nov. 17, 2012
Peak Activity Meteor Count: Approximately 15 per hour
Meteor Velocity: 44 miles (71 kilometers) per second

The Leonids have not only produced some of the best meteor showers in history - they sometimes achieve the status of meteor storm. During a Leonid meteor storm, many thousands of meteors per hour can shoot across the sky. Scientists believe these storms recur in cycles of about 33 years, though the reason is unknown. The last documented Leonid meteor storm occurred in 2002.
