Core Perform seat on C2 Dynamic?
Hi, I was wondering if the Core Perform wobbly seat will work on the C2 Dynamic. If not, are there any other options available to get that lateral seat movement with the C2 Dynamic? I saw one usenet post that simply mentioned "However, one can't mount Core Perform® on a Dynamic without a slight modification, and that's pitty." but with no further explanation about what this modification is, whether it's to the seat or to the erg, how difficult it is, etc.

Maybe you should ask the Core Perform folks: http://www.coreperform.com/contact_us.php

Re: Core Perform seat on C2 Dynamic?
I have already contacted Core Perform and Concept 2. Neither seem to know. Concept 2 said to ask Core Perform and all Core Perform said is they think it's been done but don't know anything about what mods are needed. I'm a little surprised Core Perform wouldn't know. I mean C2 is their main source of business and you'd think they'd at least take a few minutes to check compatibility for the one new model in five years. They didn't indicate they would look into it, just that I should order it and return if I it won't fit, which is kind of turning me off from purchasing their product. I'm hoping someone who has attempted or will attempt the retrofit will see this and comment about their experience and what mods need to be done.

Re: Core Perform seat on C2 Dynamic?
I agree that this should be a pretty matter of fact thing for Core Perform to figure out with C2. Why make you order the damn thing when they could figure it out with just a phone call to C2 customer support. It really comes down to the size screw inserts in the seat, and the hole spacing. I would be surprised if the seat on the dynamic is at all different from the one on the model D.

Re: Core Perform seat on C2 Dynamic?
Hi,
Here's my impression of what CP should have done.
The parts list for the dynamic shows that it uses PN 1494 for the seat, and this same seat is used on the D2, therefore the screw spacing and insets will be identical between the models. I make no guarantee, but I don't see why it wouldn't fit.

Re: Core Perform seat on C2 Dynamic?
Hi,
I'm interested in this topic, too, as I have the Core Perform on my model D now and am thinking of switching to the Dynamic. Btw, I got the same response from Core Perform a while ago, which was also a disappointment for all the reasons stated here. All that aside, I don't think the issue is whether it would fit (as others have said, it probably will), but whether it will work properly. I just don't know if there would be enough clearance to fully move laterally now that the fan cage is right next to the seat. I have not used or even seen the Dynamic in person yet, so maybe someone who has can answer that question.
This is a big question for me as I am not sure I would want to order the Dynamic if this seat wouldn't work. I'm also a bit surprised that C2 has never come up with their own, especially now with the Dynamic, as it really would more fully mirror the OTW experience in my opinion. I use the Core Perform for all my rowing now (I have the slides, too) and it is great.
Thanks.
Kevin

Re: Core Perform seat on C2 Dynamic?
Ah, now that you mention it the flywheel could be the issue since greg pointed out the rail and seat parts are the same. There isn't much clearance with the stock seat and the CP seat looks a bit bulkier underneath. But apparently his customers have modified it successfully, I have no idea how as modding the flywheel seems like a major job. He didn't know any details nor offered to find out so I can't help you any more than that.kwadams wrote:Hi,

Re: Core Perform seat on C2 Dynamic?
I was curious, has any research been done on using a wobbly seat like the CP2 and rate of back injury? I know the dynamic ergs tout less stress on the back, though there aren't many hard stats yet, but the CP2 has been around longer so I'm curious if there's either stats or anecdotal experience of it easing strain on the back.
Also, any recommendations on those wobbly sitting discs people use in office chairs on the erg? Do these come close at all to the rocking seats like CP2 in terms of feel? Or are the air filled pads too wobbly to safely erg on?

Re: Core Perform seat on C2 Dynamic?
I just measured the clearance on my dynamic. It is about 13/16" with the plastic air baffle in place and about 7/8" with it removed. The standard seat is very thick on the sides and could probably be trimmed away a lot on that bottom edge to provide more clearance. So it depends a lot on the construction of the CP seat. How much does it wobble and can the bottom of the left side be cut away to give more clearance?

Re: Core Perform seat on C2 Dynamic?
I just took a look at the CP site. It looks like the regular seat is perched on the top of the platform and it would have plenty of clearance. Frankly, I would have my doubts about sitting that high on the erg, but that is a different issue. For clearance, the key seems to be the platform itself. It looks like it might be narrow enough to miss the cage, but I can't tell for sure from just the picture.
There is about 1 1/2" between the cage and the rail on the dynamic and the top of the cage is rounded, but the CP platform looks like it might stick out more than that. The website does not give the dimensions, so I can't tell. Can you get the dimensions from the maker? If you had the width of the platform, that should be enough information to know if it would clear. If it is less than 6" it should clear.

Re: Core Perform seat on C2 Dynamic?
Hi Bob,
Are you still enjoying your Dynamic? Any issues or things you wish were different? I can't remember, but did you go from the regular static erg or one with slides?
I've been mulling this over for a good year now, so maybe it is time to pull the pin! I will need to sell my D with slides first though...
Thanks for your insight.

Re: Core Perform seat on C2 Dynamic?
I started with about 12 years with a model B, where I was clueless about drag factor until the last year when I acquired a PM3 for it. Then I had a D for several years. I got slides somewhere along the way, but after a few half-hearted attempts, I gave them up and just stored them away. Finally, I decided that I was being ridiculous and settled down to adjusting them properly and stuck with them after that, except for a month before competitions, when I put the D back on the floor. I do actually prefer the D on slides to the dynamic, but the space problem tipped the balance. Overall, I am better off with the dynamic. I, too, waited to order the dynamic until I had the D sold. Unfortunately, the buyer was not interested in the slides so they are now back in storage in my garage. Since I live in a remote area (a 10,000 sq. mile county, with 18,000 inhabitants) I felt that I was lucky to find a buyer for the D rather quickly, so I did not make a point of making it strictly a package deal. The buyer lived close enough to pick it up, so there was no fuss or muss with shipping.kwadams wrote:Hi Bob,

Re the dynamic: I love the small footprint and that is why I got it. It is a lot heavier than a D and I have to move it to another room once in awhile for Spring cleaning or when we have an occasional visitor (it is in a guest room). For an old geezer like me, moving it is quite a chore, but when I moved it in and out just a week ago, it seemed to be easier than before. It was a matter of learning the best way to maneuver this rather unwieldy machine. Another negative is noise - louder than a D, but nowhere near as loud as the old B. It is mostly chain noise, with the chain-box acting as a resonator. C2 is aware of this and may come up with something to dampen the sound. Connection to a computer is much neater on the dynamic. With a D on slides, you have to take into account that connecting cable has to move with the monitor. The monitor on the dynamic is fixed in place, so no problem. There is even less seat movement than there is on the D, so there is even more need for a fan. I have mine on my right side, so that it does not interfere with air flow from the cage. Incidentally, since the cage is underneath, it blows air up under the seat. That's OK if you want a cooling effect. If not, no problem, C2 provides a thick plastic shield that fits in the top opening of the cage and cuts off the vertical air flow. The shield reduces the DF a bit, but there is no problem adjusting that with the damper lever. It does limit how high you can set the DF. On mine, it lowers the top DF by about 20 points, from 190 to 170 (at an altitude of 4,000ft.). At sea level, I believe that the top is usually about 210, so I am assuming that it would get lowered to about 190.

Re: Core Perform seat on C2 Dynamic?
Hi Bob,
Thanks for your honest feedback. I really like my D on slides (with the Core Perform seat), but am in a similiar spot with looking for a smaller footprint. I still have a nagging feeling though (and I bet I am not the only one) that it might be better to wait a little while longer for perhaps the "next generation" Dynamic. I am just hesitant to buy a first model year on something like this. It does seem that C2 is making improvements/changes along the way and I just wonder if waiting would be better.
The model D is tried and true, and also has a great resale value. I am not sure the Dynamic would be thought of the same way right now. I do note, too, the the C2 Dyno has gone away. There is an "as new" one for sale near me for $250 and I believe that machine sold for well over $1,000 as new...
Thanks again,
Kevin
