I just read a bit on sports nutrition that covered this topic. I read that consuming carbs (and some sources say protein at a 1-to-3 or 1-to-4 ratio) shortly (15-30 minutes) after intense exercise will help your immune system bounce back quickly. This also supports the Michael Phelps post-exercise chocolate milk plan that is supposed to accelerate muscle recovery.Izzzmeister wrote:...While exercise improves the immune system, overexercising lowers it (in rats for sure), which left me vulnerable to ever-present bugs like rhinoviruses...

I noticed we were creeping up behind them! I'm in for (my usual) 80K this week.Quatroux wrote:TimbukTOO is only 242,285 meters behind c2TweetCrew.com.
How about we close that gap by the end of the Rowlympics?
I may have overdone it with intervals yesterday, but I can prop myself up on a rower for another week. How about you?
On a side note I just rowed 8,432 meters in 30 min for a PB/SB. Last week rowed 6,000 meters in 21:07.7 for a PB/SB. Still a mile behind Cap'n Izzz in the Nonathlon , but am making good progress.
Re: TimbukTOO Team Room
I agree with you I have seen an increase also at the club, where I work out Still have not seen or noticed anyone row past 30 minutes..... at one point I could count on one hand how many people have sat on the rowers... now I have to use two hands... I hope I don't have to start using my feet... I just might have to break down and buy one...Quatroux wrote:The popularity of the ergs at the gym this weekend makes me think of the annual flood of users that follows January 1st. I'm going to assume it is the Olympics. They'll all fall away in a month kind of like an empty gym in February.
Of course I want everyone to be healthy and exercise... I just want them to do it on another piece of equipment OR honor the FACT that the 1st rower on the left is reserved for me.
Re: TimbukTOO Team Room
Congrats! Love to hear it. We'll catch Izz, but we might be rowing a 4 with him in a single. I propose that the blacksmith and Lisa round out our boat.CONLEJM wrote:I just rowed 8,432 meters in 30 min for a PB/SB. Last week rowed 6,000 meters in 21:07.7 for a PB/SB.

I just noted the olympics challenge. I should hit the 5hr mark in time for a bronze medal
I also seem to be on track for Dog Days I may have to jump in and scale my work outs throughout August to stay in

Re: TimbukTOO Team Room
I looked over to my right on Sunday and the fella next to me pulled a 1:45. I was thinking, "Dude, where have you been all year?". I don't know if he held that time for long or just sprinted the last bit, but I respect any rower that can even show the potential of being a 'sub 7'. I have my reasons for being slow, but I'd like to think I could join that club if my form was right.dpw4812 wrote:I hope I don't have to start using my feet...

Re: TimbukTOO Team Room
Babbling Basset Hound, Batman!! I totally missed posting about the Dog Days challenge! Here are the basic details, and the challenge page is here.
The Dog Days of Summer runs from August 1–28 and features a different total distance goal each week.
The Details
■Row or ski, indoors or outdoors, completing each of the following four distance goals during the timeframes indicated and log them in your online logbook:
■Week 1, Aug. 1–7: 20,000 meters
■Week 2, Aug. 8–14: 30,000 meters
■Week 3, Aug. 15–21: 40,000 meters
■Week 4, Aug. 22–28: 50,000 meters
The distance goals do not have to be done in one sitting, but must be done during the timeframe indicated. By the end of the challenge, you will have accumulated 140,000 meters.
■This is an individual challenge. (You do not need to belong to a team to participate.)
■Meters must be entered online.
■Indoor rower, on water, SkiErg, and on snow meters count.
