A member of an indoor rowing team or club? If so, this is the place for you.

Can this one team row to the moon and back?

I've read the first 4, I really liked them a lot. Waiting for the fifth book to come out in soft cover at the end of August. I thought the second book was much better than the second season of the show.

When I do long distances I usually drink juice, I think the sugar helps.
I'll see you on the dark side of the moon..

All In A Day's ERG: Team Progress Thru 7.18.12

Post by Kona2 » July 20th, 2012, 12:06 am

Welcome back to Sarah and Tanya. Great to see you on the roster!

Ed McC = great that you ventured into the forum with a question that we can pretty much guarantee that all of us face from time to time. I'm going with the hydration answer, too. And not just hydration when you're actually on the erg. Hydrating well in the hours and day before you push the body is really key. A nutritionist with the Clifbar company usually spends an hour or two with the bicyclists preparing to ride the MS150. Her main goal is that if we take away nothing else from her talks, we take away the mantra of "hydrate, hydrate, hydrate."

Bonking not limited to those on the erg of course. There's a link below to an article about the Tour de France riders working hard to avoid running out of fuel themselves. The Tour de France riders are pushing up the last of the mountain stages today. Pretty tough climbs and Cadel is trying to hang in there, but I think he's done for as far as a top ten finish this year. Sorry Jane.

Season meters as of 79/365 = 31,919,945 m

Total meters on the day = 809,413 m

Oars in space (participation) = 32 percent

Bazzy, your photos are always exciting, you seem to go on so many adventures.

Today I hit 8 million lifetime metres! I'm going to go on a virtual tour from Ottawa to Parintins, Brazil, which is about 12000km away. You know, on an epic quest to find the fabled sports bag.
thanks....and congrats.....did you treat yourself to a cupcake or pizza?????

Appalled to read about the Colorado theater shootings, last night. Relieved to hear from Kona2 this morning. I don't even know what to say about that douchbag gunman, without sounding like a total anarchist. Madness.

Avoiding the boink

Post by EdMcCarthy » July 20th, 2012, 6:27 pm

Thanks for the excellent suggestions, everyone. I'll follow them for my next long row and we'll see how it goes. I normally row 2x/day for 4000 - 5000 m each session so I hadn't bothered much about hydration, but it does get warm in my basement during the summer. BTW, please excuse the newbie question but have we reached the moon yet?

I really enjoy the CBreeze accessory; can't imagine rowing without it, these warm days.

Our moon mission has a bit of a "Lost in Space" flavor, which does add to its basic charm! (Does anyone mind, dreadfully, if our destination is not the Earth's moon?) Our team Astrogator will doubtless set us straight about our exact position in the matrix, and the star date for the anticipated lunar landing. Boinks notwithstanding.

Apologies for the posting delays. I do have the numbers captured for yesterday and today. I will get the posting put together a little bit later today...we have many full marathons to celebrate, and lots of other kinds of milestones.

Colorado is a great state...and like other great places, sometimes really terrible events happen. Hug your kids.

And me too! I want a cake like that!

Myth-busters on tV at the moment, and they are doing it on the moon, how appropriate...

And I'm with K2, hug your kids everyday.

All In A Couple of Days of Erging: Team Progress Thru 7.20.

Post by Kona2 » July 21st, 2012, 7:11 pm

Image Wowzer...let the birthday celebrations begin, then ! Get the fire extinguishers ready !Thank you for the pre-birthday wishes!

There are OTHER milestones to celebrate! Team members have rowed almost ONE million meters in the last two days - way to row! And...we have some teammates who are having some fun with numbers... Gene has given us a lucky 777, Minnie and Marty have provided numbers that we can choose to read left to right or right to left, and Jane's thrown us a Fibonacci AND a sequence....woot!

ImageCongratulations on the full moon to Michelle, Cathie and Jay! No matter how many times these might have been completed, each one is still a huge endeavor...and some serious seat time on the erg.

Image C-breeze...how to stay cooler when rowing!

Season meters as of 81/365 = 32,890,120 m

Total meters on the couple of days = 523,173 and 447,002 m

Oars in space (participation) = 41 and 35 percent ! Well done!

BTW, what kind of animal is Goofy? I'm leaning toward dog, but isn't it odd that Goofy can talk and he has a house and Pluto who is also a dog can't talk and has to live in a kennel?
