LOL I remember that show.... It was great.... wanted to do some big fishing but time ran out... Hoping to go for some big fish when the family and I go to Florida next year... would love to hook into something bigger then I was LOL

Not sure about hooking a marlin...I have seen them attack someone on the boat... of course I am betting it was just an accident. also so a video of a 500lb marlin bitten right in half by a shark before they could land it..... would have loved to hook a 50lb cod or pollock.... but next time I hope....

did eat some serious seafood while I was up there..... even made it to Kelly's down on Revere Beach for some fried clams and great roast beef sandwiches..... Nothing like a great tasting lobster roll.....

Thank goodness for rowing, to keeping these old bodies in shape....... :) :D

A big Woot to Kyle for his million!! Rooting for Jim now, who will be there soon too! Row strong, maties!!

Who is going to be participating in the RowLympics challenge? We won't be able to track it through stats since it's time-based instead of meter-based, but if you are participating, post how you're doing. I'm going to try to go for the gold!

Bad news for me... No meters for a while. Ever since being back from our vacation I've been experiencing some weird physical symptoms -- muscle weakness, mental haze, shakiness, wobbly... Nothing that stopped me exercising, of course! Blood tests show a little elevated muscle enzymes, one cause can be over-training or heat stress. So doc says no exercise for at least three days and then a blood recheck. This is gonna be hard.... Hopefully I'll be back online for the RowLympics!

Blackburn Challenge pics
The white boat on the grass is a Chesapeake Light Craft kit-very nice. Surf ski behind it, and a couple various dories behind it. The one by the water is similar to a Grand Banks dory.

More Blackburn pics. The top is one of me headed for the start line. The guy in the white shirt in the big dory is 71 years old. Awesome guy. Last year he rowed a Grand Banks dory single handed with his 40 something daughter riding along-the Banks dories are about 350-400 lbs-he did it in 7 hours. Now there is a role model!

Finish line pics. The second one shows a Grand Banks dory. I chased those guys for a couple miles, caught and beat them-man,they were tough-wore me out. Really nice guys. As I passed them we were talking, and one goes-At least don't drink all the beer at the finish party before we get there! The pole sticking out is the Greasy Pole. Kind of a local challenge thing. The pole is greased, and you have to walk out to the end without falling in-no I was too tired to try it. Maybe next year.

I had my first experience with over-training late last year and it took me a month to get back in gear.

What were your symptoms, if I can ask?

Great pictures Mark! And good to know you can still be out there doing that when you're in your seventies! And the greased pole? Who thought THAT one up? OUCH!

Sorry to hear you're not feeling well Lisa. Hope you feel better soon. And the Greasy Pole-it doesn't look too bad at high tide-it's about a 10 foot drop then, but low tide looks like 20 or so feet. Katerina said that while she was waiting for me at the finish line she saw someone fall off. She thought it was quite funny :)
