Ok-race report. Totally awesome event... 4 hours 35 minutes approx... I was told by some long time racers that that is an amazing time for "a tank like that". Got blisters under my callouses-hands a bit hamburgery-I also caught up to and BEAT a 2 man dory-man-they were TOUGH. Started pushing hard at the 1/2 way point... and kept it up to the end... I'll have to go at it harder next year. Totally amazing time... I would HIGHLY recommend this race to anyone competitive , but a totally friendly outing and a whole lot of fun... Mark
Hey, I knew you were too tough to let some wimpy duo beat you! A little Hamburger Helper on youjr hands, and you'll be good as new!
Where's the rest of the report? For example: Who kept splashing everyone because they couldn't get their oar into the water straight? Who was puking their guts up while you were downwind of them?

Actually, I didn't see too many other boats after we got out of the Anisquam River. Most people hugged the coast, I was pretty far out from shore-1/2 to 3/4 mile out. I wanted to keep as straight a line as I could (except for the wind and waves blowing me around). If you stick to the shoreline, it's more distance to row-being the lazy guy I am, I wanted to keep my distance to a minimum. I took a line form peninsula to peninsula. As a side note, the only bad part of the race is the difficulty in "classing" a boat. As a fixed seat single (my wherry is 14' long 4' beam) I was up against narrow fast boats. First and second place were Adirondack guide boats-less than 2' beam and probably 40 pounds versus my boat at 110 lbs. That being said, it's pretty near impossible to get a fair classing system, due to so many hull designs and I am ok with the way it is. I am seriously thinking of building a Grand Banks dory for next year-they run 350-400 lbs. I like the idea of "old school" for the race-makes it a true strength/endurance test. The people in the Banks dories have real guts. Very hard contest. A Banks dory doesn't even have oarlock-just 2 pegs sticking up from the gunwhale, so not only do you have to row, you have to not let the oar drop in the water. Anyone want to partner up?? I'm going to run with the Big Dogs in the race.

Have you posted a picture of your boat? Not sure if I joined the team too late to see it, but would love to have a look.

Here's a good shot of the boat from Pygmy . http://www.pygmyboats.com/boats/winegla ... t-kit.html Love the boat, but it's kind of a workboat-very stable-rows easily, but it's not fast.

OK,
On to the next crazy thing :) https://www.regattacentral.com/regatta/ ... ob_id=2227
Race from the George Washington Bridge to the Tappan Zee Bridge. Only 25 kilometers, strong current and tides, going UPRIVER. Anyone care to take second seat??? It'll be fun.

I’ve been sick with an upper respiratory infection for about 10 days. I finished a HM last week, but that didn’t cure me. Go figure!

It didn’t take a nagging wife to get me to the doctor this time. I’m on the mend and should be 100% by the Rowlympics.

I have been rowing steadily this week and last, but the heat and humidity have been too much for me to attempt any personal bests. My rower is in an un-air-conditioned part of the house, so lately after about three strokes I am sweating profusely and gasping for air. Better weather in the days ahead, so hopefully the situation will improve.

I volunteer to cox. The scenery is probably grand and I can keep you on course and on pace. And hand you snacks and water...

Feel better Andy!!

Actually, I've had a cold since last Monday. I don't think I caught it over the Internet from you, tho. I think I got it from doing a season's best 10K in the morning, then a season's best hour in the afternoon. While exercise improves the immune system, overexercising lowers it (in rats for sure), which left me vulnerable to ever-present bugs like rhinoviruses.
So no, I'm not surprised a HM didn't "cure" you! You can still exercise tho, just not all-out and not for too long.

After fighting a problem ankle for a couple of weeks, I finally decided that enough was enough. Resting it was useless so I figured working it may be better. We'll see.

We've been fighting the heat as well. Even though we have the A/C running, it really can't keep up with the weather, so I've been doing all I can to get through some of my rows as well.

I can deal with cold weather; heat and humidity is horrendous, though
