Good luck, Mark!! Be safe, have fun (yeah, it sounds REAL fun...) and at least you can be reasonably sure your hands won't freeze to the oars!! Looking forward to a great race report!

Still deperately trying to get back to the 8k per day average, work stopped play on thursday so went for a biggy friday planning to bring up the 600 today but the first dry saturday for 6 weeks meant the garden called- well screamed really.
Never mind an HM will get me near.

Hi All,
Ok-race report. Totally awesome event. 230 some boats-325 or so people. Everything from surf ski's to kayaks to stand up paddle boards, 6 man outrigger canoes, guide boats and traditional dories. Amazing people-from all over the States and Canada-made a bunch of new friends. Now for the good part-4 hours 35 minutes (approx-never checked my official results, due to awesome party at finish line). I was told by some long time racers that that is an amazing time for "a tank like that". Got blisters under my callouses-hands a bit hamburgery-I also caught up to and BEAT a 2 man dory-man-they were TOUGH. Started pushing hard at the 1/2 way point (10 miles out, if you're not familiar with the race)and kept it up to the end. Tiny bit sore today-nothing really. Means I'll have to go at it harder next year. Totally amazing time-gorgeous scenery (oh,yeah-I watched too much scenery the first half of the race). Found myself not rowing going "wow-that's pretty!" more than a few times-cost myself a bunch of time. I would HIGHLY recommend this race to anyone- competetive , but a totally friendly outing and a whole lot of fun. I was pretty much toast at the end-had some trouble walking, but it went away after a bit. Now, back to the erg, and get ready for next year!
Mark
