I hate rowing the short distances for ranking. It is just too hard. Rowing anything less than 5K seems to use something different in me (like anaerobic stuff, instead of aerobic stuff). I can get in the 90% - 95% percentile for those short distances if I practically kill myself trying, while for the longer distances I can get 95% - 100% percentile and feel fine when I am done.

My next goal is ~8,400M in 30 min.

Hey team! just wanted to drop in and say "i'm back in the saddle!"

First row in a month or so. Shoulder feels good.

Quick question: Would love some tips on good shoulder/back stretching exercises. I still have a muscle that is pretty well seized/spasmed from the bike accident so I want to make sure I do a good job of stretching after each workout.

Thanks all!

Welcome back!! You really (O RLY? YA RLY!) must have done a number on that shoulder. I don't have any tips, but wanted to say I'm glad you're better and back in the boat!

Im guessing that i should have just spent the $120 up front to see the chiropractor/sports dr. at the start and I probably would have been better in 2 weeks.

My wife is supposed to convince me to do these things, as I am a man, and she failed in her duties... That's my story and I'm sticking to it

I'm with you. I might not have full use of my right foot if it wasn't for my wife. I slipped on some ice outside my kid's school and hurt my foot last year. I was determined to not see a doctor. My wife stopped just short of physical force. She made the appointment and browbeat me into it. I think she even called my mom. It turns out I had a Lisfranc injury. I could have done some serious long-term damage by continuing to limp on it. Instead, I was in a cast for a couple of months and scored an awesome rowing machine for rehab.

When you do the long distances, you're trying to have your muscles exhausted of glycogen at the very end.
When you do the short ones, you're working at an oxygen deficit, and are trying to run out of, gasp, available oxygen at the end. Also, your muscles are burning from lactate buildup, and you're trying to finish just as the muscle burn gets unbearable.
Big, painful difference...

(Did a 16,118 hour, posted my new HM, 6K & hour times, and passed you in the Nonathlon rankings. Just sayin'... Even though I still need that 100 points to stay ahead.)

Just make sure you keep an Equal Distribution of Labor & Responsibilities in your marriage. For example, she might be responsible for her actions & your actions, and you might be responsible for reading the sports section & being able to produce, on demand and using your armpit, farting sounds!

  My goal for the Nonathlon is to get to about 8,325 without the Marathon bonus (that's 925 * 9). I have studied the scores for the past 12 years, and the average "top 10%" score for all ages/genders/weights is 8,538, while the average "top 10%" for heavyweight males aged 40-49 is 8,304. That is my cohort, so that is where i am focusing. If I absolutely have to, I'll do a marathon (like, in April), but I am hoping I don't have to. I have seen you score near 8,500 in the past, so you should come close to the top 10% overall this year.
