In the future, just set up a 5K, and ask it to give you split times for every 500m. Intervals are for bursts of speed that you need time to rest up from...
The only thing I can think of is that you didn't do the full, full 500m the last time, so it didn't record it. Or you may have stopped the monitor before it got to officially record the final interval. I've had where it didn't record rows because I stopped the row while the meters were still moving. Now, I just wait a few seconds after I stop rowing before setting my PM3 back.
Yep, that was it. I had originally set up the workout for 8k and stopped before it ended. Thanks Izz.

So I take it that the logbook doesn't keep track of intervals? I can't rank an interval distance?

I don't do intervals either, but wouldn't 10 500 meter intervals with no rest be the same as 1 5000 meter row? Which is on the standard list of times/distances built into the PM3 menu. Maybe I am missing something.
You're not missing anything. It's me.

I assumed that if I set up a 500m interval that it would allow me to rank that interval in particular. It seems that it just sees the complete workout regardless of intervals.

I'm new to C2. My bad.

The only problem is my small anvil is 225 lbs. Might be a problem.
I thought when an anvil is moved into a nautical setting, it's called an "anchor"!!

Injury recovery question for you experienced athletes.

My shoulder is much better, still get twinges of pain and discomfort when I use it certain ways but more mild discomfort than pain, etc.

What is the wisdom on recovery from an injury and getting back into exercising again? Do I wait till the pain goes away completely or should I start doing some slow, easy short distance workouts now?

Miss my rowing - keeps me sane

Thanks

Well, my take on it is, pain is a signal that damage is occurring, or at least that something is wrong. You may not be adding on additional damage to the injury, but you could sure be slowing or preventing healing. Proceed with caution. If you row and it's only a very occasional twinge, continue with care. If it worsens either during or after, cease and desist. There are other forms of exercise available to keep you sane that don't aggravate that joint.

Sometimes there is pain that just needs to be lived with. My feet bother me, but not always, and it comes and goes. So I might get some pain at the beginning of a run for a few minutes, but it doesn't continue. I have seen the doc and have taken steps to help minimize the issue, but have to accept that due to my foot morphology, it's never going to be perfect. It is better than it was, and I just have to keep cognizant of what to do not to make it worse, and if it flares up, to take it easy on the trails for a while -- i.e., more rowing!

Listen to your body, and don't force things. Good luck!

"Tom W has re-joined us on deck, instead of surfboarding alongside!"

You must be psychic!

TS Beryl did indeed produce good surf here in Florida and the center of it made landfall about a mile from our new house. It produced nice waves on the Saturday and Sunday am. The rest of the weekend I worried about our trees blowing over.

My surfing has taken a boost with our move but my rowing has taken a hit. We have been unpacking, and dealing with the moving of elderly parents to be close to us. I havent set up my erg yet. I did my last row on a model B in the fitness center at work. It felt great to do that little row.

Thanks for the encouragement, I hope I can get some more rows and contribute more at the next challenge.

Tom

Holy moly, it doesn't look like I apply myself NEARLY enough when rowing... :o

Not a Pretty Picture (Rowing = Pain)

Some choice quotes from the article...
... When every part of each body says stop, inexplicably the boat still continues. Individual limitations reassert themselves only when the race is over; only then is the body released from the tyranny of the shell and allowed to vomit, lose consciousness, or gracefully expire...
and
If one wanted to lay waste to all the energy in the body in the shortest possible time, rowing would be the way to do it.

When all else fails, read the instructions...
You can set it up for infinite intervals (e.g. 500m row, 2:30 rest. This will repeat until you stop), or for limited intervals (500m row, 2:30 rest, 8 repeats). Just don't stop before the end of an interval, or it won't count those meters.
I'm a fan of Active Recovery (meaning, just row slower between intervals, don't stop completely), it will give you a time for each interval, and how many meters you did during the rest periods (it'll say 'r1462' at the end of the list of interval times), just make sure that the rest meters upload to the website as part of your row...

The clapping was props for the blue type, and, yes, I think it's time to stop clapping. My arms are tired.

Instructions? BAH!!!! Never liked those things. Usually written in Japanese.

I didn't know there was a name for it, but I do exactly that in my intervals - row slower during recovery.

I saw that the card gives me interval times with 'rest' distances, but when I uploaded to the site, the only value that I see is the total distance - including rest distance. I would have expected that the online logbook would keep all information, including intervals. The card will eventually need to be erased, no? The only record after the card is erased will be the online logbook.

Also, by not tracking intervals in the online logbook I am not able to rank any of them.

Or so all this it seems to me. Am I missing something here as well?

Warm-up for a trail run. Like to get my quads, hammies, and knees awake before I hit the hills.

So, here's something rowers probably never encounter... On trail yesterday I met up with an obstacle... A 4-foot rattler. It just stayed in the middle of the trail for a long time ~ had 5 of us (all ladies) stopped for about 10 minutes!! I tried everything (safe) I could to encourage him to move along, but nothing. Then along came a knight (biker guy) in shining armour (biking tights) on a white steed (mountain bike), and got him to move and let us all by.

Image

I suppose rowers could have to deal with water moccasins or cottonmouths, but I'm thinking not in the middle of the Charles...
