Woot and whoop whoop!

Post by Kona2 » June 6th, 2012, 12:16 pm

Woot and whoop, whoop! Concept2 has outdone themselves with this challenge (will have to drop them a note to say "way to go!" on this one).
Image

We already have some Olympians on the team, and now we get an opportunity to represent our respective countries in a new Challenge. Yep, expecting GOLD medals all around as it is clear that this team can and does row a lotta hours. Note the word HOURS. Instead of cumulative meters, this one is all about time on the erg. I can hardly wait to place the ImageImage and Image bronze designations next to the team roster names as you earn your medals. And the opening and closing ceremonies will be fun, too. We represent quite a few countries...let's have some fun with this one!

Rowlympics and PaRowlympics Challenges

Represent your country in the Rowlympics and PaRowlympics!

The Concept2 Rowlympics coincides with the Olympic Games, starting with the Opening Ceremonies on July 27, 2012 and continuing for 17 days until the Closing Ceremonies on August 12, 2012. This special rowing challenge (both indoor and on water meters count) celebrates the spirit and competition of the Games: represent your country by earning virtual medals (gold, silver, bronze) and certificates for the number of hours rowed. Hour totals are cumulative and do not need to be completed in one sitting.

For our adaptive rowers, the PaRowlympics will run for 12 days from August 29 through September 9, 2012.

Certificates will be awarded for the following hours of rowing during the length of the challenge, so make sure you log all your meters in your Online Logbook:

Excitement abounds!!

Whoa...got totally off topic (like that never happens) with the lure of a brand new Concept2 challenge! It's not just the recognition of all types of rowers that's so cool .... it's the design and manufacture of equipment that enables everyone to participate in the challenges. I don't know if Concept2 was one of the first to manufacture adaptive exercise equipment or not, but they are certainly leaders in the field.

Welcome back to the 2013 Rowing Season to Roger - great to see you on the roster. And, congratulations Ron, on the lucky 13 in 2013 Rowing Season (they are all lucky! )!

Look at all the cool quarter million meter milestones being celebrated today! Unusual to see six of any specific milestone happening on the same day...twilight zone music! Of course, its also unusual to see two Fibonacci series in the same day, too (Jane and Rich)!

Season meters as of 36/365 = 17,409,828 m

Total meters on the day = 809,107 m

Welcome back to the 2013 Rowing Season to Roger - great to see you on the roster.
First, welcome back Roger! :)

Second, I'm very excited about the new challenge they will have going this year. I have to admit it's hard getting motivated in the middle of summer when it's so hot, but I'm planning on trying out the challenge for sure!

Monday morning in Newcastle and the rain is absolutely pelting down, and we are sitting here thinking how lucky we were on the walk. Started at 7am Saturday, and finished at 3am Sunday. The weather was perfect, but cold at night. And navigation was a bit tricky in the dark.

I enjoyed every moment of it, and found it was a great challenge for the mind, especially over the last few hours. I’m sporting a couple of pressure blisters under both feet, but otherwise feeling in good shape.

Cheers, BBB

Skies here are not so blue. There is a steadily growing wildfire in the canyons northeast of here - again along some very scenic bicycling routes (and camping, hiking, etc.). This wildfire is called the High Park fire, and is currently at about 15,000 acres. Since it is about 30 miles away, and we have high winds today, the smoke is covering much of the metro area. Our state has been hit hard with beetle killed trees and these are great fuel. There is an orange glow in the sky at night...and it's not the harvest moon. It is very sad to see the forests burn (even though it might be ecologically very helpful). Many families are having to be evacuated, as well as their horses, small animals. Sometimes the warning gives them only minutes to leave. The air tankers that carry the fire retardant fill up less than half a mile from my house -- there is a regional airport there. There's been a lot of air tanker traffic and one can only hope for the best possible outcome. Like the New Mexico fires, the terrain does not make it easy for firefighters to gain access, or provide a lot of water to get containment.
