Another episode...
A bronze of a skier carrying a baby is the profile picture for Concept2's member of the day, Todd Cedarholm. The photo sent me down a bunny trail before I could even capture the stats of the day...a bunny trail that tells of a great escape, and bravery of Norweigan x-country skiers who carried the embattled King's 18 month old son to safety by skiing through the mountains and forests of Norway. The skiers were called Birkebeiners due to the birch bark protective leggings used. Back in the early 1200s, Norway was busy with the Norweigan Civil War. The bronze Birkebeiner is one that is in Lillehammer, Norway. The route taken to safety was from Lillehammer to Trondheim....a distance of a couple hundred kilometers. Extraordinary acts by ordinary people - those are the things that inspire. The Birkebeiner race to safety is commemorated in Norway, and in the US each year. The American Birkie takes place in Wisconsin and has grown to be a series of events that reflect a lifestyle that is dedicated to health and outdoor fitness...whether you run, ski, row, bike. American Birkie has its own trail system and hosts a bunch of different activities. Here's a link to the history:

And, while I did capture the numbers late in the day yesterday, I didn't get a chance to put the stats out on the forum. Pretty close to a million meters posted over the last two days - lotta good rowing going on!
Season meters as of 31/365 = 14,756,933 m
Total meters for 30/365 = 651,526 m

And condolences to the Arkansas community where Jim and Bobbie live. The community lost another 8 year old in an ATV accident, and this time the boy's baseball team will be honoring a teammate. Being 8 is difficult no matter where you live, and these kids are getting more than their share of losses. Hug your kids.
