Hi,
yesterday I managed to improve my PB on 10k by 45''! I am now at 38:30.3 which is finally something I feel comfortable bragging about. I follow Pete's beginner plan and am progressing very nicely.

Actually, yesterday I wanted to row well above my previous 10k PB, as I had a very hard week behind me. But it went so smoothly over the first 2k that I just when on rowing a 1:55/56 pace through out the rest of the distance. For the last 2k I could pull only a bit faster - around 1:50.

The next goal is 2k sub 7' and 10k sub 38'.

Cheers,
SB

Well done SaBhava! If you're still working through the Pete's Plan you'll definitely reach those goals. And a 45 second improvement when you weren't even intending to PR is fantastic!

Edit: I just saw in your signature that you've only been rowing since March. Those sort of times in only 2 months of rowing is amazing! I am seriously impressed, well done!

I PR'ed on my marathon yesterday, breaking a 3-year old previous PR by over 3 minutes :D I pulled it in 2:41:31.7 (1:54.8), and spent the entire last 10k wanting nothing more than to stop, but made myself keep going despite blisters on my hands and feet and some chafage from my arms hitting my knees (does that happen to anyone else on long piece when you start to get tired?). I'm more proud of keeping going than anything else really... The last couple years that I haven't been on a crew team I've been not the best at making myself continue when things get really painful. I think I did pretty well with the hydration and such... I was definitely somewhat dehydrated at the end, but had a couple bottles of gatorade next to me that I would drink from every 15 minutes, and a bowl of peanut m&ms that I grabbed on occasion, and that was enough to keep me going.

Thanks comictimes! I have to admit that I have been rowing for three years on another rowing machine where resistance is created trough electro-magnetism. Doesn't compare to C2 rowing as the resistance is fixed and only spm is counted.

I don't tink I will ever be rowing as fast as you - congratulations by the way.

It's great to see that interval training from Pete's plan is working so well. When doing track & field I was never fond of intervals but now - 20 years later and on the erg- I really enjoy it.

Definitevely something to brag about. Congrats on that row... Seems that the rest of those #'s in your signature will be changing soon.

New PB for 1000m today. I've been focusing on the 500, but thought I'd try the 1000. 2nd time I've done it for time, and it's a different race than the 500, that's for sure! Anyway, pulled a 3:17.8. Set the pace boat at 1:38 and used it to learn about pacing. Cool!

Yesterday did the 10K in 38:09 and altough it isn't my best, it is the best in the last 5 years. My best date from 2007 when did it in 38:08, so i'm very happy to be doing this at 54 y.o.

After a great row in our masters eight on Monday I was motivated by the other guys in our crew to have another crack at 30 minutes. Hence, last night I hopped onto the C2 erg on slides at the rowing club and smashed out a 30 minute piece sitting on 1:43 to 1:44 most of the way . I managed to complete the 30 minutes in 8702 meters. That's a recent PB for me.

I also learned that the Australian record over 2000m on slides was recently broken by the stroke of the Aussie men's coxless four in a sub 5:40 minute time. WOW!

Results on slides is all that on water rowers look at now these days here "down under". Static ergs just remain the domain of the gym junkies who think they can row.
PBs: 2K 6:13.4, 5K 16:32, 6K 19:55, 10K 33:49, 30min 8849m, 60min 17,309m
Caution: Static C2 ergs can ruin your technique and timing for rowing in a boat.
The best thing I ever did to improve my rowing was to sell my C2 and get a Rowperfect.

Maybe. But as a C2 user for over 20 years, I agree with RR's recent post which was about slides, with no mention of the Rowperfect.

I think the comment was in response to the his signature, which did mention the Rowperfect.

Good point. I checked out the message as I was composing the response, but the signatures don't show up on the page while you are doing responses so I missed it. The message itself did not have it which was my issue.

Why do you think that people who sit on a piece of gym equipment think they can row? Puzzling kind of thought. :?:

I feel that a strong rower like RR, who can put those great numbers, can brag of them and let us know what and how a rower can realistically do with proper training. But that don't give him the right to despise the rest of us. More than puzzling, it is an unsporting kind of thought.
