ERG + What?

I just got a great new hybrid bicycle. I rowed 4 times last week, and rode all weekend. Feels great! What are you up to?

I voted for Road biking, not least because that's how I get to work. But I added On-water rowing to the options, as I guess that might be quite popular. My apologies for interfering with your poll!

Cheers, Paul

It's fixing a dumb mistake! Thanks. - L.

What is a reasonable price for a hybrid bike?

A friend of mine says they have them for $160 and up in Canada.

get two bikes... a road bike and a mtb bike... I wouldn't get a hybrid.

$160 is way too cheap anyway... that'll be a heavy lump of metal not a bike.

I prefer to ride on dirt roads, not off road trails. And I sometimes ride the 15 miles to work on pavement, so a hybrid is exactly the right bike for me. But that's my longest distance. Road bikes are very specialized to be super light and go very fast on pavement. People who ride long distances have to have road bikes. And going off road requires big knobby tires and these days, heavy duty shocks too, so mountain bikes are very specialized. I found that the top of the line hybrids (which have narrower tires than mountain bikes with much less knobby tread), are in the range of $700 - 900 USD. You can get serviceable hybrids in the $400 - 500 range. Whereas getting top of the line road or mountain bikes can be 3 or 4 times more expensive than a top end hybrid, and even serviceable road or mountain bikes are in the $1,000 - $1,200 range. Being clear about what kind of riding you intend to do, is critical. I got a TREK 7500. Check it out - beautiful bike.

Even if you do have mixed riding tastes, check your budget and see what you can afford - sometimes you may prefer a riding position over another - road bikes are lower and a little sleeker, moutain and hybrid bikes have a very upright position. There are bikes for all types of riding - such as, if you prefer a road bike fit, but ride on dirt alot - cyclocross bike, if you prefer a hybrid fit but ride all on roads - there are "relaxed fit" road bikes out there.

Secondly - I can only pick ONE? so not fair.

Due to blisters I tried running for the first time in a few months. I only did 6 miles at a slow pace (47min) but I still got enough pain in the leg muscles the day after to make me walk funny if I didn't concentrate. Even more notable is that I got a little pain in the lower back muscles. You think erging would have kept them at least tough enough for running slow, but no. =/

Also my inner thighs insisted on rubbing aganinst each other, despite underwear, enough to cause red skin and pain

Anyway, I enjoyed the run and will have another tomorrow. Hopefully it will feel a bit easier, even if my HR was only in the 158-163 range yesterday it felt a bit tougher than when I ran more frequently.
