Excellent job!!! I concur with eating healthy and exercising for good reports like this!CONLEJM wrote:A year ago I was diagnosed with high cholesterol. I went to the doctor today for my checkup. Big improvement from diet and rowing alone - no drugs!
My numbers were / are:
Total: was 258, is now 190
LDL: was 205, is now 121
HDL: was 38, is now 57
Triglycerides: was 120, is now 60
Blood sugar: was 95, is now 90
Plus my weight has dropped from 235lbs to 210lbs in the same year. I am very happy with the results and I remain prescription drug free! Diet and exercise are the best medicine, at least for me.
Lots of soluble fiber (oats, flaxseed, chia seed), nuts, fatty fish, olive oil, vegetables, dark chocolate, red wine, etc. Basically the Mediterranean / Japanese diet. And for the last four months - rowing like a madman!

Re: TimbukTOO Team Room
So sorry to hear about your injured wing, and many apologies for the delay in responding: my son's keyboard has too many missing letters to make typing feasible, and since his computer is connected to the TV, I have to reconnect the modem to my computer and then...it goes on. Upshot: I winced when I read you were rowing with the brace, which may mean only that the injury I intermittantly experience is not CTS. I hope you regain full use of your arm soon.damselfly wrote: Many of us have "NewGrip" weight-lifting gloves and really like them. http://www.newgrip.com/rowing.html
P.S. I have developed carpal tunnel recently and now row with a right wrist brace. That seems to help a lot.
And yes! I can (now) officially say that I really like my NewGrip gloves. It took quite awhile to get used to them (as you said many pages ago, and as the instructions caution), but now that I'm there, I can't say enough good about them. All my calluses are gone, and I routinely slice a minimum of 5 seconds off my x/500m timing. (Oh oh; what have I done? As if the battle up at the front of the boat isn't deadly enough.... Where O where is my rowing buddy to keep it fun???? )

I can't find the entry of the member who wrote that his brother got so riled at being a pound or two heavier than him that he ordered an erg--was it you, Andy? (and I really did look hard through the months of pages)--but I'm really curious to know if he went through with it. Or was it all tongue-in-cheek?
If not, how's he doing? Or does he wholly concur with the image of medieval torture devices? (Loved that image, by the way).

That's my brother Heather. He's 6 years older than me, lives in NC. Bought the erg in Feb, as of last week he had already lost 10 lbs or so! I tried recruiting him...once in person and a couple e-mails, says he doesn't row enough to be of any good to us I told of the great motivation, and that he could probably double the number of native Vermonters on the team ... didn't work. Maybe he'll join for the next challenge or we'll sic Capt. Izz on him!
I'm from Vermont...I'll do what I want

If I read it correctly I can rest for 6 days total and still succeed/win at the March Madness challenge correct?
<<Brent>>
Re: TimbukTOO Team Room
Hi Brent, you are correct. 31 days in the month and you only need to row ( 5k or 10k) for 25 of them to win. I hope you are successful!bcurry wrote:If I read it correctly I can rest for 6 days total and still succeed/win at the March Madness challenge correct?
