OK, I know this thing is ancient, but I'm thinking someone might know. I recently got a Model C. It has the PM1 monitor which works, there are just a couple of lines on LCD screen that are don't work. The third digit on the /500m display will only display an "L" (at least when it should be zero). I'm wondering if I take the monitor apart and give it a good cleaning if all of the number will come back, or if this is just an old, tired monitor that I'll have to live with until I splurge for an upgrade. It is not a big deal for me as, at this point, I'm just getting into shape, but it would be nice to see the whole #.
Thanks

Re: PM1 LCD
You need to look at how the LCD is connected to the circuit board. Dismantling and reseating the LCD could be just what you need. For a seven segment display an L rather than an O means you've lost segments a,b,c and maybe g. That's four wires for a discrete connection (different if multiplexed).Austex_Rower wrote: I'm wondering if I take the monitor apart and give it a good cleaning if all of the number will come back, or if this is just an old, tired monitor that I'll have to live with until I splurge for an upgrade.

Upgrading to a PM3 or PM4 does have a few benefits.

Re: PM1 LCD
Ensure you "RESET" this monitor correctly after replacing the batteries or there will be parts of the digits missing.
There is a sticker on the end that shows you how to do this.
1. Hold down the RESET and the UP ARROW key.
2. First release the RESET
3. Then release the UP ARROW key.
This usually fixes it.
