Yikes... 1300 calories is a 13-mile trail run, a 15-mile flat run, and who knows how much rowing. Actually, 3 hours, or 33k.

I was pushed for time before work so I could only fit in a timed piece!

Thanks a lot for the daily posted metres damselfly, you're a star!

Here's how I picture your day:

8:00 Awake from 20 minute power nap

8:00 - 8:01 Consume one Red Bull - feel satisfied knowing this is your only source of simple carbohydrates

8:01 - 8:02 Eat 1 tablespoon of unflavored protein powder - no time for mixing it with water - considered mixing it with red bull, but decided against it

8:02 - 19:00 Row

19:00 - 19:01 Eat chicken breast and a handful of almonds marinated in 5 hour energy drink

19:01 - 19:02 Post meters on Concept 2 - Add 5 seconds to your split times and reduce total meters rowed to "keep it competitive"

19:02 - 7:39 Row

7:39 - 7:40 start 20 minute power nap by chanting "catch, drive, finish, recover"
That's kind of how I picture my day too... then my wife shakes my shoulder, tells me to stop sweating, thrashing and yelling, that it was only a nightmare!

Awesome row today. Just cranked out a 6k in 21:38.7, and in the process of doing this I noticed I hit 5k in ~18:01. One of my goals this season is to do 5k in 18 minutes or less, so I am just inches away from that. 25 years ago that time on a 5k would get you invited to try out for the UNH crew team, so it has always stuck in my head as being a goal of sorts; one which I could do 25 and even 15 years ago ... But not since.

To boot, i'm 25k away from my first million in a season, and plan on hitting that by Wednesday. That'll be accomplished in exactly three months of rowing, so there is hope that I may someday be rowing 4 million per season .... Not likely, as erging for me has always been a cold-weather sport, but possible.

I hoe you are all accomplishing your goals, too!

Wow, it took me 2 years to break 18 minutes! If you can do 18:01 in a longer row, you can beat 18 minutes now! So, will you re-enroll in UNH?

This is a small preemptory "woohoo":

>>>>WooHoo!<<<<

In other words, I should get through 700k tonight, less than three months after purchasing the torture machine...umm, I mean the C2.

In three months I have:
  • Lost almost-nearly-just-about-darn-I'm-so-close 12 pounds (from 212 down to 200.8, I'm 6'5")
  • Discovered affiliations
  • Participated in the Christmas Challenge (~160k meters after starting somewhere in December)
  • Participated in the January Virtual Team Challenge (~416k meters, 182nd out of 4,615 participants)
  • Discovered an old friend online who rows at an insane pace and pushes me to perform better.
  • Continually improved my ranked times. Currently 7:14 for 2k aiming at 7:00. 18:44 for 5k with plenty left in the gas tank, 37:49.9 for 10k with energy left over at the end.
  • And by tonight will break the 700k number, hopefully on my way to a million for the season despite starting in December.
Most importantly: muscle mass is up. Skiing inter-run recovery time is down. Hiking stamina is up. And I haven't become so bored with the equipment that it turns into a laundry rack.

As others have said, a large part of the equation is the social aspect. If it weren't for all of you TimbukTooTypes that list above would probably have been pared down to:
  • Did some rowing
So despite my self-congratulatory list, what I really want to do is thank those of you who have inspired, pushed, cajoled, and humored me into keeping me motivated. We'll just ignore my 2.5 week layoff at the beginning of February...OK?

Ditto for me, too, vis-a-vis thanking the team. I would never have rowed the amount I did in January without all fun and banter. (Who me--competitive?) I've been wondering how I did it, and now you've just reminded me. As for the 2.5 week layoff.... I seem to remember 'someone' mentioning the possibility of a wash of bloody bodies after the January challenge. Boy, was she right or was she right?

I've been so inconsistent this month that I was feeling guilty (sort of) about what a rotten 'leader' I've been . But then I looked at my month's stats and saw that after tomorrow's row it will be 310 K; not too shabby... But I must admit I've been doing a lot of whining while rowing this month...are we there, yet?...., so to keep myself motivated, I went back to playing on-line poker the session before last and had a breakthrough today: two hours went by without a flicker of resistance (with pauses to click on Fold, Call, and to make bets--and to gape at the stupidity of some of the players; howl at points when I nearly busted; and gloat at those I busted) and finally I came in 2nd in a 45-player Sit 'n Go (for a $0.25 buy-in, you too could win a grand total of $3.03!!! for 1st or $1.98 for 2nd).

Who would have thought one could row and make money? Remember, you read it here first!

So, on to March. Are we posting goals for the March individual challenge, or are we focusing on the World Erg Challenge starting on the 15th? Or both???? Snoopy's back in the fold.

Cheers,
Heather

Salted Butter-Pecan...

Mmmmmm, you said it! For all those of you who have thought about buying an ice cream maker, go for it; you won't regret it. Store bought has nothing on home-made--and forget those tiny Ben 'n Jerry or Hagen Daas containers! For half the price, I can make FOUR times the amount and--considering the amount of goodies I add--at least SIX times the number of calories.... What a bargain!
