Re: TimbukTOO Team Room
From Concept2 (http://www.concept2.com/us/training/bas ... ensity.asp). Note the point I bolded.
Damper Setting & Workout Intensity
The best damper setting for a great cardiovascular workout is in the range of 3–5. Rowing with the damper setting too high can be detrimental to your training program because it may reduce your output and increase your risk of injury.
Workout Intensity
■The harder you pull, the more resistance you will feel. This is because the Concept2 Indoor Rower uses wind resistance, which is generated by the spinning flywheel. The faster you get the wheel spinning, the more resistance there will be.
■You can row as hard or as easy as you wish. The indoor rower will not force you to row at any set intensity level. It is up to you. As you put more effort into your rowing, you will go faster, produce more watts, and burn more calories. All of these outputs will be measured and displayed by the Performance Monitor (PM). Keep your goals in mind. For example, if your goal is to burn a lot of calories, it is more important to row for a long time than to row hard. If you row too hard, you won't last as long.
■The damper setting is like bicycle gearing. It affects the feel of the rowing but does not directly affect the resistance. With a little experimentation, you will find the damper setting that gives you the best workout and results. We recommend a damper setting of 3–5 for the best aerobic workout. This is the setting that feels most like a sleek, fast boat on the water. Higher settings feel more like a bigger, slower boat.
■You can view your performance in pace, watts and calories. The PM displays your output in a choice of units and display options. You can choose the units and displays that work best for you.

I don't get it, and am very skeptical on this guy's post. I'd like a take on this one from our experienced rowers. Izz?BoB/335 wrote:This looks like a good read from doing a quick skim.

Unless there's something fundamentally different about what rowing does in a cross-fit workout. I mean, "To make my point clear a damper setting of 10 (8 for women) should only be used for pieces under 150 meters"... A piece UNDER 150 meters? My flywheel has just about spun up after 150 meters... In this case the machine would just be performing like some other weight-room resistance machine like a weight stack or something. Not as a machine to work out as a rower. So, I don't think the suggestions would be pertinent for us here.
Anyone?

Yes, I rested all the way through my 9 miles of hilly trail Sunday morning....
And today's rest was to cut down and cut up a 15-foot tree, and remove the stump!
Boy am I rested...

Re: TimbukTOO Team Room
Same Church... Different Pew. My meters have been off as well since I am trying to get ready for the Tough Mudder in mid April. I have been spending more time on the treadmill which has cut into my previously erg dedicated meters. Good luck with your continued training!Well, it has taken longer than I wanted originally but I have hit 200k lifetime meters logged online. It would have probably taken less time but since the month has started I have been doing weights, running, AND rowing. Not necessarily on the same day. I am trying to get myself ready for a warrior dash at the end of June

Re: TimbukTOO Team Room
Did a personal best yesterday!
In the 1K, my personal best was 3:14.1 from last season. This season, my best was 3:14.8.
Last night, I did a 3:12.3, moving up from #29 to #18 in my age category!
(It also looks like I can beat it - I'd gone out too fast, then had to do all I could just to hold on. Hence, I'd done the first 500 in 1:33.9, but the last 500 in 1:38.2 - not exactly a well-rowed race! Also, my heart rate at the end was only about 156, when I usually end PB attempts with my heart in the low 170's - so there obviously was still some gas left in the tank. Maybe I'll re-visit this in a couple of weeks...)

You better start rowing on water, just for safety's sake, cuz that's SMOKIN' FAST!Izzzmeister wrote:Did a personal best yesterday!

Re: TimbukTOO Team Room
Hey everybody,
I'm going to propose changing the meters capture time. Right now it's 7PM Pacific time, except Mondays when it's early, and Fridays when it's late. Some folks have -- not complained really -- just mentioned that they don't always make the cutoff. For me, it's also just about when I'm trying to feed my hungry and tired spouse.
We originally made it that time to get the meters posted on that same day, but that's become unworkable on a consistent basis as well. So, hows about the capture gets done at 9:30 Pacific, and things get posted next day.
Any concerns, issues, complaints, etc., please post here.
Thanks!

From someone sub-7 who will probably be beating my times within 6 months, I take that as a real compliment!CONLEJM wrote:Geez, there must be smoke coming out of your Concept 2 rower when you row! that is fast!Izzzmeister wrote:Did a personal best yesterday! I really want to be beating some of those longer PBs - like the hour, HM & FM - but I'll probably have to drop about 10 pounds first. I'm working on that too!
