I agree, and thanks to both of you for piloting this ship! I would not have done even half what I did without the team's motivation.

When the Cap'n listed his several goals for the remainder of the 2012 season (a couple of weeks ago), It really helped me to establish mine, and I have made good progress since.

16 million-WOW! Congratulations! Now that the challenge is over, I find myself getting on to the next obsession. Started checking the honors board daily to see how far up I can climb. On to 10k per day average. Actually, I'm pretty happy where it is so far-there was a bunch of days that I wasn't on the erg at all, so the 9k per day average is pretty good I think. B)

Izzzmeister wrote: First, congratulations on leaving your "comfort zone" and trying & finishing your first Full Marathon! Terrific!

According to my Brainiac calculations (if I told you how I calculated this, I'd have to kill you), a running marathon is the equivalent of about a 55K row. So, you should be able to FM of 42.195K with good hydration without "hitting the wall". I was pretty shocked when I finished my first marathon (with RowPro rowers) - then signed up for a half marathon the next day (with the same crew)... and survived!
Personally, on my first marathon row, I stopped at 1:00, 1:30, 2:00 & 2:30 (for 12oz. of 1/2 grape juice, 1/2 water + a dollop of hummus). On my second, I just stopped at 1:00, 1:35 & 2:10 (for 12 oz. of 1/2 Powerade, 1/2 Powerade Zero + two tablespoons of yogurt).
This one I did last week, I had some pre-cramps, so instead of a 45 second break sitting down, I twice stood up and walked around for 2 minutes while I drank (12 oz. - 1/2 water, 1/4 Powerade, 1/4 grape juice + one dollop of hummus for a bit of protein). Part of why it was a "personal worst" time...
[/quote]

Thanks a lot Izzz for your encouragement and continued support. I will reflect on my marathon strategy and gain further opinion on this site and take it from there. I would encourage anyone who hasnt yet braved the marathon waters to jump in with both feet, the sense of personal achievement afterwards is great!

Furthermore, I would like to thank all of you for a great January row. I have loved our virtual quest and I really hope that most of you stick around throughout the year!

Wow, this place sure has quieted down! Everyone must be recuperating from the team challenge  I hope you are all doing well!

I definitely needed some rest. I kept on rowing after the challenge, and by Friday I pretty much crashed. About halfway through a short row I completely checked out. I tried again Saturday and the same thing happened. So I took Sunday off and took it easy, and I got back on the rower today and it felt great. So I definitely need to get a day or two of rest each week for best results.

Yeah, everyone pretty much crashes after a challenge. I don't know how the guys who went over to the military challenge take it! Guess they've got the right stuff.... (No, wait, that's astronauts....) Well, anyway, they're tough!!

I got back on yesterday for a while, just to counteract Superbowl snacks... Today is a run cuz it's going to rain tomorrow and Wednesday. I'm booked in for the GenFit rows online for Tuesday and Wednesday -- anyone want to join in or set up something different? :)

Welcome, Kyle J, and thanks for grabbing an oar! (Kyle was one of TimbukTWO’s “studs” during the January VTC.) Kyle brought 858,928 meters with him – which, with the 61,524 meters rowed by 4 of 57 members (7%), added 920,452 total meters this Super Bowl Sunday!
Milestones: Kyle J hit 800K in only a few months!
Approaching milestones: Mark E pursues 2.6M (-15,755m) while Mike E nears 700K (-23,640m)!

Posted Meters:
Mike E - 24,191 Good distance!
Mark E - 22,398 Over 80K the last 3 days!
Lisa H - 9,380 Woot! And the Giants won, too!
Jamie B - 5,555 Sweet!

(Anyone who rows Super Bowl Sunday deserves special recognition!)

Don't think I quite crashed (I only upped my rowing a couple notches), but I've been shocked to see that since I started "training" for my Feb. 12th race in Cincy, my times have fallen, not improved! That despite being stronger, having lowered my sprint times, and having done a number of 25Ks at cc. 130 heart rate (averaging 2:01-2:04).
Though I'd done 6:42.3 last year, my "test" 2Ks during the year were at 6:46.3-6:46.9. Yet last week, my 2K was 6:48.7, this week 6:47.7 - and I was pooped out! It would be sad if I did worse this year than last.
Guess I skipped too many "speed sessions" during the Challenge in favor of longer pieces!
So, I will likely "train through" Cincy, and extend my training either one set of 4 weeks or 2 past it.
