damselfly wrote: Well, I took the RowPro plunge; it's Glen''s fault. Kind of a fun app. Nice to have it off to the side while I row, since I HATE the PM and usually push it up so it's not staring at me, then have to reach up and pull it back down to see where I am... Plus it works with my Garmin HR monitor strap so I'm using that again while rowing... The upload feature is nice too, no copying down numbers when my hands are shaky from the row and not being able to read the numbers later... I got the annual license ($29), a little easier to swallow right now than the $99.
Welcome to RowPro, I'm a big fan. Besides it sometimes motivating me to row when I don't feel like it, it also has a few "little" features that sometimes help. For example, when you stop rowing for 60 seconds, the PM3 disappears your row - but with RowPro, if you need to run to answer the phone or the call of nature, your row awaits... (Just don't go running off to the RowPro affiliation or team and break my fragile heart.)
I can't get it to work with my Garmin Forerunner 305 HR monitor (but I haven't been able to upload my bike rides to Garmin either), so I don't know what spell you put RowPro under...

Great job, Adam, how did it feel?
It honestly wasn't too bad. I know I've trained well for it, but I was expecting much worse. After running a marathon a few years ago I was broken for days afterwards, I was expecting something similar but I only have mild discomfort in my shoulders and (apologies....) backside.

I went for a 3 stop strategy of stopping at 10.5, 21 and 31.5k to take on water/ energy gels, but I'm already considering rowing another in March on a 4 stop plan (resting every 8.4k) as I felt weak approaching the original sub-total. I would welcome any other Team members insight and experience though!!

Adam
First, congratulations on leaving your "comfort zone" and trying & finishing your first Full Marathon! Terrific!

According to my Brainiac calculations (if I told you how I calculated this, I'd have to kill you), a running marathon is the equivalent of about a 55K row. So, you should be able to FM of 42.195K with good hydration without "hitting the wall". I was pretty shocked when I finished my first marathon (with RowPro rowers) - then signed up for a half marathon the next day (with the same crew)... and survived!
Personally, on my first marathon row, I stopped at 1:00, 1:30, 2:00 & 2:30 (for 12oz. of 1/2 grape juice, 1/2 water + a dollop of hummus). On my second, I just stopped at 1:00, 1:35 & 2:10 (for 12 oz. of 1/2 Powerade, 1/2 Powerade Zero + two tablespoons of yogurt).
This one I did last week, I had some pre-cramps, so instead of a 45 second break sitting down, I twice stood up and walked around for 2 minutes while I drank (12 oz. - 1/2 water, 1/4 Powerade, 1/4 grape juice + one dollop of hummus for a bit of protein). Part of why it was a "personal worst" time...

Leapin' Landlubbers, team! We had a record-breaking day yesterday in the penultimate day of the VTC!! We ended the day at 10,555,847 meters, or 6,555 miles!! We achieved break-neck speed into Miami, but did a quick stop at Miami Beach and dangled our tootsies in the Atlantic for a few minutes. Then we sped south along the Overseas Highway down through the Florida Keys to Key West.

Image

But our energy is unabated, and we're heading east to the Bahamas!! It's 196 miles to land, so let's not get stranded!

Now THAT'S a cool feature!! I did notice it seems to keep the PM awake... No worries about me jumping ship.... About the heart strap, it's the PM, not RowPro that talks to it. As long as it is an ANT-compatible strap it should work... The C2/PM4 came with a Suunto strap but I don't know where that is... My old Polar strap worked with it as well. Check out this, might help... How to Use Your Suunto or Garmin Chest Belt

Sorry about the slacking off. Kids gave me a gym membership for Christmas and Katerina was getting mad that I didn't use it yet (too busy cranking out 540K or so) and went Sat. Did my usual go at it easy like everything else    , and was too tired to row Saturday, and too sore Sunday. So what do I do-go back today and did it again   .
Oh, well-it kept Katerina happy, and it's good for me. Cross training will be good. Went with my 18 year old son-who was bragging he could do a military press at 100lbs (I think military is the one where you sit upright and press the bar),. Well, thanks to the erg I could press 165 lbs-you should have seen the look on his face-priceless! I'll be rowing every other day now I think. He's been bragging to his friends he's going to get stronger than his old man-I told him maybe by the time I'm 65 it'll happen
By the way-this challenge has been a blast-THANK YOU ALL!!!!
Oh, sure.... We row to the Keys just for you and you're not even in the boat anymore.... Fine...... Seriously, XT will be good for you -- have fun!!

Congratulations, Heather, on reaching 600k!!! You're awe-inspiring, woman!! B) B)

For those of you who missed the row on Sunday it was epic. It was me and....well.....ok, not a lot of other people :)
I'm registered! Might be just the two of us... me watching you off in the far distance...

The GMT thing is just laziness. No reason the events can't be stored in the database in GMT and translated for each viewer into local time. :x

I dunno if I'll ever be strong or fast, but I did squeak out a PB yesterday on the 6k (feeling not too good), and today I did my second-ever HM and felt really good, setting a new PB (shaving 96 seconds from my previous) and ranking me at the 91st percentile for my age/weight. So I am pretty darn happy with that.

I have learned that I really like rows in the 30 to 60 minute range, and I do really well on them. I do pretty well on the shorter 5k-6k rows, but I don't enjoy them as much. And I can't stand the very short 500m - 2k rows; they just plain hurt!

I would never have rowed so many meters this month without the support and inspiration (and competition) of the Team, so I thank everyone for pushing me beyond my normal limits.

Cheers to Team TimbuckTWO!

I'm in that same boat ( ) That's why you see my steady 10,000 meter rows. I'm between 43 and 46 minutes depending on how I feel. I did a couple of 1 hour rows a couple of weeks ago and it gets to the butt a bit!!!

PS There's something about training partners somewhere here. Maybe we could PM or email and trade off some details about each other.
