100 km and your arms are tired!
I'm jealous somehow. I doubt that I would still have arms after 100k.
Maybe I would also miss some other body parts (like the one I sit on while rowing).

I just finished a HM and the imagination to do this for another four times by today make me feel VERY tired, exhausted and hungry.

My plan is to finish the second million meter in this season. 684014 meters or 32.42 Halfmarathons to go.
Or seven Ronrows. B)

Congrats to your 100k! That's awesome!

Question for BG

Post by Jodi » January 27th, 2012, 8:07 pm

Hey BG,
Thanks for all of your support! Here's a question for you, how is Summerville, MA as a retirement location? We're hoping that my husband can retire from his government job in 6+ years (dependent on economy among other things), and he's mentioned Maine. Just wondering. :)

Oh brother! I sometimes mistake one state's abbreviation for another. I should have paid more attention in school. But thanks for the info. That does help. The only other question would be do they tax federal retirement income. Some states do, and others don't. Ideally we would like to settle in a state that doesn't. But we still have a little time to figure it out. And of course it all depends on whether we could sell our home by then too. But thanks again. :)

Congrats on the 1M Chip and Marie!

A few more days to go in the challenge. I'm curious where we'll end up in the end. Not that it truly matters, as we look great in the challenge with a great average meters per member. Nothing like Overcoming Disabilities, but still very impressive nonetheless.

Way to row!
Wim (attempting to get back into rowing shape).

Those "M" states' abbreviations will get you, every time! Isn't the usual retirement model to move to warmer climes, not chilly New England? (Even though it's wicked good there. We moved to CA from Boston.)

Just when you think you know what the final outcome is going to be with one of these Challenges, something changes! Will it be fate or will it be destiny (destiny sounds better, let's go with that) that has the greater influence? A good surprise would be nice!

Overcoming Disabilities Team is approaching the cool half million milestone for average meters per teammate, as well as heading towards 10 million meters. They are still on track for an 11 million meter challenge finish. The Luna-Tics team is holding steady in 5th place overall. We are on track for a 22 million meter challenge finish.

woooo hoooo....congrats chip...btw..i easily confuse the state abbreviations.....and i'm a retired city of boston public school teacher....i have to fill out the federal form...but not the state...or i should say h&r block does.....and two other somerville factoids that i thought of while running 14 miles this morning so i'll post then even though i'm not in maine......i'm next to boston and cambridge...and marshmallow fluff was invented in somerville and we have a fluff festival every year.....

Hey, thanks for the information!
Yes, you're right the norm would be to move to a warmer climate, but we moved to the East Coast from San Diego (where my husband was born and raised) and we really like the East Coast. Personally, I would prefer a warmer climate when we choose where to settle permanently, but my husband got a severe case of heat stroke or heat exhaustion while training for an ultra here in S.E. Georgia a few summers ago and hasn't dealt well with the heat since then. He loves it up North (and would move to NYC in a heart beat if it weren't so expensive). I on the other hand don't like to be cold. So we're going to have to find a happy medium. :) I suspect it's going to be someplace near enough to see the grandchildren as often as possible, so we'll see what pans out in 5 or 6 years from now. I still think we'll end up in Jacksonville, FL., but we'll see.

" ... hasn't dealt well with heat" and "Jacksonville, FL" ... does not compute!

Deplaning in Florida always feels like someone has thrown a wet washcloth at my face.
(Child arriving in Tampa, gasps - "I can't breathe, what is that!?" Mother - "it's called humidity.")

I like Tennessee, but the kids/grands are In norCal. So, here we stay.

Ha! That's funny, but oh so true! We are just 2 hours drive from Jacksonville down the coast (it's where we go to get back to civilization once or twice a month) and some of the runs that we do there are just brutal because of the humidity. It can really sap your strength. It even kicks my butt on the rowing machine during the summer months. The thing about Jacksonville that appeals to me is that there is culture and variety there. Off Broadway plays, jazz festivals, year-round running events, the zoo, beaches, malls and most importantly the Jacksonville International airport so that if we aren't close enough to drive to see the grandkids we can always get a flight out without having to drive 2 hours to catch a flight. Gotta get my grandkids fix!
Maybe we ought to check out Australia, or even Canada, they seem to have a great variety as well. How do they tax retirement income? :)
