Benefits of affiliating are really what we make of it. (It's not a permanent thing and one can always change). Instead of just encouraging each other during the virtual challenge, I could revive the Ewe Row Team row in the general team section and we could continue encouraging each other during the rest of the year. The sheep could celebrate the achievement of milestones. It's difficult for me to maintain a monologue thread especially if I may be the only one reading it (there are better uses of my time). On the other hand if there were other active team members I would be benefit by feeling more accountable and motivated to row and would be happy to cheer others on.
You can check other affiliated members season progress and the team's season standing by going to the Affiliation standings link in the log book (I find the easiest way to find Ewe Row! is to go to virtual teams 1-5 members - we're currently #74- but we could be 61 if you joined and even higher if Chuck also joined) you can click on the Ewe Row link- to see how many meters team members have rowed this season. (You don't see lifetime meters.)
I guess there are pluses and minuses of belonging to a small team versus large team. A large team has a more consistent presence. But I do feel more accountable to row as a member (especially as team leader) of a small team, if others are rowing.
I appreciate the encouragement Chuck!! I'm building up slower than I like but I am aiming more for consistency of rowing. In the past I've sometimes rowed more than is good for me and then been unable to row for a week or two. The sheep want me to hit 1,600,000 meters by the end of the JVC which means rowing another 35K meters.

I'll look into affilliation as soon as I get a chance. I've experienced the benefit of mutual online encouragement, and I like a small (to keep it managealbe) but viable community. I had a very positive experience on the Younger Next Year Community, but it has fallen into disuse, and has been over-run with spam. I row My C2 in the colder months but usually not from June-Sept when I prefer to get out on my bike.
I'm a firm believer in keeping it steady and sustainable, rather than going all out and risking injury, which as I get older means long recovery times which are detrimtal to my overall heath.

Thanks! - The best part is I've lost 8 lb since Jan 1, bringing me to 176, from my Jan 1 weigh in of 184! I've worked out 19 of of the first 21 days of 2012, and stayed focused on avoiding junk food. Although my 21 day fitness challenge is done, I revived some of my healthier living habits and am on track to get to my target weight of 170.

I might not quite make my goal of hitting 1,600,000 by the end of the challenge. I'm actually going to a Spring Forest Qigong Workshop all weekend so I am doing something healthy (just not rowing). It's the first time I've taken a few days off with no plans to do work since April, (there will be no time anyways I think - it seems like they have a full schedule.) I am greatly looking forward to it.
Still I've rowed more this month than previous months this season and I can feel my endurance building so I'll just keep at it when I get back.

I am at the qigong seminar having a great time. The head of the ewe row cheering squad is with me, but the rest of the squad is at home cheering you on.
I have been doing this form of qigong since 2009. Sometimes though it feels like my desire to row is in competition with the desire to do more qigong.

Here it is, the last day! I'm so very pleased with how we have all done!!! Chuck's lost weight, Miryam's got back into rowing regularly, and I've passed my goal of 150,000 meters for this challenge! We had some very inclement weather a couple of weeks ago and so my school was closed down for a week, so that really helped out because it gave me extra time to row. (Ha! My students think THEY are the only ones who enjoy "snow days" off from school!!) I'm hoping to do a final 10k by the end of the day today, which will bring my challenge meters to 165k and my lifetime meters to 200k. It's be a blast rowing with you and I'll keep up on your progress through the affiliation page!
My next goal is to row at least 150k in February. C2 is doing the Military Challenge, but I'm not eligible to row for that because I'm not military. However, I still intend to row on my own in honor of the service of the three Marines that my class had the privilege to get to know through letters and emails during their recent service in Afghanistan. So, February is dedicated to Sgt. Shaunterrice Mapp, Col. Wade Wockenfuss, and L. Cpl. Curtis Raney.

Congrats Lisa on your accomplishment And thanks for providing a challenging pace for me to chase. I had come into this challenge thinking I would do about 100 Km, but when you got out there ahead of me, I tried to keep up. I was only planning to do 5 Km this morning, but I was thinking I might have a chance to catch up by doing a 10 Km, but you kept the hammer down and pulled ahead. Keep it up and you will show your students what a real personal transformation looks like.
