Congratulations!!!

I note that Snoopy is asleep today.... :)

Managed 12k+ today, but feeling punky. Been having blood-sugar issues (hypoglycemic episodes every morning last week). Yesterday morning I felt awful, had a bunch of water and a nap, then woke up and ate everything in sight. Slept better last night and feel better today, but the muscles feel drained. What up dat?

On the team challenge standings front, I personally don't care what place we're in. I put out extra effort but learned my lesson once diong 400k in a fall challenge. Way over my limit. Some people are either fibbing on their meters or are just a bit cuckoo with the number of meters they put in -- perhaps retired or certainly with more time than I have avaiable!!

Take a look at the individual standings. The guy in the lead has 21 million meters in the challenge, or almost 3 times the distance of our entire team**. Second is Darlene with 1.4MM (she usually leads).

** See next post.

OK, so, regarding the individual in the lead for the challenge, somebody please check my math and logic here.

21,005,823 meters, divided by 500 for the number of 500m splits: 42,011 splits

Assuming a leisurely 2:30 for a 500m split, (150 seconds) we have 42,011 * 150 = 6,301,650 seconds of rowing total.

Converting to hours ( divide by (60 * 60), or 360 ), we have 1,750 hours of rowing.

Convert to days (divide by 24), we have 72.9 DAYS OF ROWING.

In the first 22 days of the challenge.

As Tom and Ray say on Car Talk, "BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOGGGUUUUUUUUSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!"

Even if you assume a much faster split of 1:30, that works out to 1,050 hours, which is still 43 days.

WTF!!!

Well, I'm not the only one to notice... http://www.freespiritsrowing.com/forum/ ... 69&p=97821

The theory seems to be that meters for multiple club members are being entered under one user. "CrossFit Forever Strong" also seems to have a user called "Forever Strong Members".

The Free Spirits guy seems to think this is allowed in the challenge, but it sure nixes average meters per member as a valid way to judge a challenge. I think it kinda sucks.

And if you click on his name - "bob bestor" - you can see that his age is 112 years old! :o so ... definitely some human error there.

Anyway, I use the Omnikey card reader to upload my data; pull the log card out of the PM3, plug it into the card reader (attached to the PC), open the Concept2 App, and the data uploads with no room for fudging or human error. So easy to use, if you don't have one I'd recommend it; it was ~$20 on Amazon. As a result of using the card reader, all my records have "C2Log" validation after them. Before I had the card reader I would manually enter my data, including the 16-digit validation code for every row, producing an "IND_V" after them. This was a little more time consuming.

The 112 years old thing is cuz there's no birthday on file, so it defaults to Jan 1, 1900 in the system, I think. There are a lot of them out there like that. I think it should be a required field.

Happy belated birthday, Bob Bestor!

P.S. If you entered the validation code for every row by hand, you're one hard-core rower!!! I enter all my data by hand and don't do that.... I'm a wimp.

There's the problem with the honor system-some people are just not honorable. I use the log card reader on all mine-just because I'm lazy and don't want to do it manually. And the math does seem correct on Mr. Bestor. Interesting-but what to do about it??
Thanks for the congrats Heather! I saw the "Sleepy Snoopy" and figured you were resting up.

I think it is a combination of my personality-type and 20 years of working in a heavily-regulated financial occupation. It is just second-nature to validate everything. Thanks to the logcard reader, this is done automatically now.

By the same token, I usually cast a dubious eye on the top-ranked rowers with a simple "IND" validation after their crazy-fast scores. Why not enter the validation code and remove all doubt?

1) In order not to have to buy a card reader - or upload manually, upload the c2 utility from http://www.concept2.com/us/service/soft ... nloads.asp, attach a normal USB cable to your PM3 & laptop, and upload one or all your rows that will read C2Log. (If I rowed the piece using RowPro, I often upload it straight from RowPro's rowing log.)

2) I do have the option of entering meters from the Team Manager page, but I can add them to the individual who rowed them - I wouldn't put them under my name. Besides, "Bestor" is not the team manager, & shouldn't have access to that page.

3) A couple of challenges ago, when the challenge ended we were in 13th or 14th. Somehow, in the following days, two teams passed us - by a lot. I wondered about the honesty of those suddenly appearing meters, but held my tongue and just posted how great our members had done, which had me impressed.
But, I had a bad taste in my mouth, and I had a fleeting thought to put up an equal amount of "found" meters, a thought I promptly stomped on with hob-nailed boots. I want OUR pride to be legitimate, based on facts and hard work.

All hands on deck, looking towards their seasonal goals! A typical weekendy 11 of 55 members (20%) logged 164,977 total meters Sunday! We have a chance of hitting 40 million by the end of this week!

Milestones achieved: Mark E whacks 2.4M, Yisroel H handily passes 2.1M, Joseph W achieves 1.3M while Glenn Y beams up 700K!
Approaching milestones: Heather is flitting towards 2.5M (-5,000m), Tyrone zooming to the Big 1M (-30,727m), Andy is closing on 900K (-29,912m), Kevin adding meters towards 800K (-26,864m), Mark halves the distance to 350K (-7,658m), Daiva is closing on 200K (-6,600m).

Man, get busy for a few days and suddenly you have pages of one thread to catch up on.

Personally, I manually input my meters but that is because the machine I use belongs to the gym I go to and I don't know if I am willing to pay for a card and a reader for a machine I do not own. I might do it though, if I can figure it out  However, I never even knew there was a validation option. does this exist on the PM3 or is this a PM4 thing and that's why I haven't seen it?

Unfortunately no meters rowed for me in the last 4 days, life has a way of slapping me around at times. I only got 6295 in today, I wanted to do 10k but it was snowing and I knew people would be slow on the roads meaning I needed more time for driving. Ah well, maybe I can make up for it tomorrow. I only have a few days left to get up to my 100k goal!

Coming into the home stretch folks! Sunday was a light day with only 132 miles rowed... We stood at 7,899,450 meters, or 4,905 miles. Too many people glued to playoff games??

Image

Still deep in the heart of Texas today... Spent the night in the tiny town of Childress, TX. Rolling plains and sky as far as the eye can see...

Image

It's 223 miles to Fort Worth -- totally doable today!!! Can we make it by tonight? Row strong, team!!!!
