I remember a week like that, with its own thrills and chills: I was weight-training at the time, and while doing leg presses, I started stewing about the object of my fury (make that frothing at the mouth) and busted a rib because I was holding my breath. Oh that I had been rowing at the time!

I hope all is as well as it can be by now.

But what's this "being somewhere near the middle of the pack" guff? Last time I looked, you were #1  And yes, you were referring to the PB times, but doing the math and the time you're putting in for the meters you're doing, my comment stands. And good for you.

Now I've got to gear myself up for rowing after a day off; sometimes that loss of momentum...but someone's got to drive you on to your goal, and niggle the Blacksmith into getting back into the boat, so I guess it's up to me...

You go get'em girl!!!

Good morning, team!! Good Friday progress on the road brought us to 7,330,910 meters last night, or 4,552 miles. Unbelievable progress since January 1. Pat yourselves on the backs!

Image

We were into New Mexico soon after dawn, and rowing through country made famous by the novels of Tony Hillerman, on the outskirts of the Navajo, Zuni, and Acoma nations. Then on down through Albuquerque and overnight in the tiny town of Moriarty. The land and sky seem to go on forever, with hardly a soul to be seen.

Onward today towards the Texas border and Amarillo!!

Erging today, BUT....if you check out Squaw Valley's web page today (and probably today only) you'll get to see my back.

http://www.squaw.com. I'm the one on the left (and they really should admit that the picture was taken last year!)

I think I may take a well deserved day off today...possibly tomorrow, but we'll see. Stacking firewood and shoveling has tuckered me out and I haven't taken a real break in nearly three weeks.

I was thinking about how great it is that so many people here have taken to erging to improve their health; get off meds, stay off meds, lose weight, etc. It's great to hear all of the success stories on this board. If more people took the initiative to improve their health rather than just let themselves go (and suffer all of the medical consequences) ... I wonder if there would be as much of a "healthcare crisis". A $900 Concept 2 Rower is a lot less expensive than some prescription meds, and certainly less than most surgeries or hospital stays.

Keep up the great work, Team!

I think we should all be expecting individual health care costs to be directly connected with an individual's FITNESS and health all not that much in the future.

It might happen. But it would be another stomp on the poor. The people least able to afford good nutrition, and exercise equipment/gym memberships would bear the brunt of it. I heard a talk by a Dr on NPR (wish I could remember his name) about how poor people in this country have a shorter life expectancy due to lower quality nutrition and lack of proper health care. I'm going through a divorce and losing my health insurance. As a small business owner/individual the premiums for insurance are unaffordable by me due to the economic downturn-been looking for a "real" job-not much in my area above 10 bucks an hour-which is going to have a real impact on my health. Yuck.

There is PLENTY of exercises to do without exercise equipment and gym memberships!
