Both at once?!?!

David, I'm so sorry to hear about your troubles!!! That just sucks. Glad you had the erg to work it off and are not now wanted for homicide... Your workout schedule is awesome!! You must be one fit dude. And I'm glad you have started posting on the board!! Yay!! Enjoy your Sunday off, you MORE than earn it!

I will probably rest tomorrow. All this rowing and running and my knees are starting to "buzzz" if you know what I mean. Not hurt, per se, but they're letting me know they're not really pleased with me. Did a 7-miler with some friends this AM -- very slow, as one is coming back from an injury. LSD. The good news is that I can run easy and my HR is down in the 120s. Nice.

Got my T-Shirt today. It's a really nasty shade of green! :x

I throw some Pilates in my workouts and I just wanted to say that not only has it been great for the core, but there is something "heady" about it. Not spacey like Yoga. It has also improved my flexibilty. Great for my off days.

Well, I was in total Glen Mode today!

I kept chasing shiny objects today, and I wound up with 1,004,814 lifetime meters :D , and 600,305 season meters :) . I ordered my 1MM Club Pin and T-Shirt - and I like ugly shades of green, so I am looking forward to it!

No, I'm not talking about looking like a female impersonator David    . And the comment about not wanting to piss her off relates back to my Grandmother who, would grab you by your ear and pull (yes, I richly deserved it).
By the way David, awesome workout schedule! I don't know how you do it (besides dedication and hard work)!

I just checked the stats-Amazing numbers!! I feel a whole pack of big dogs coming my way-I'd better get going. Only problem is, now the hand is kind of better, I've caught my daughters cold  . She's not liking posting no meters either.

It takes more than rowing to get a body like that and I'm NOT saying (by posting that) that that is something we should ascride to. (Just wrote "that" 3 times in a row. What's "that" all about)

I don't even know how I ran across that in the first place. I was just pointing out how being "challenged" by others can motivate one to excessiveness. Heck, the daughter may never have embarked on bodybuilding if the mother wan't doing it and the mother may have eventually laid back on it if it hadn't been for the daughter getting involved.

The challenges "can have" the same effect and seem to be the driving force behind many members here. Not saying it's a good or bad thing. Just saying............

Also it pointed out to "me" the possibilities of a healthy body and life at an advanced age that I didn't think about. I know that exercise will keep you active and feeling better at an advanced age, but I don't think I ever considered the "extreme" possibilities and as "extreme" as that may seem to be, I have to admit that it could be a potential goal to consider. (Maybe???)

I'll have to re-read that last post to see if it made any sense. I'm still not fully awake.

Thanks for the welcome the other day people. Jim, congratulations on your million metres B) What Bob was saying about challenges being a driving force. For me I often think of my mother who had asthma her whole life. She could hardly breathe sometimes. I'm fortunate to excercise and get out of breath on this rowing machine at all. I can't bitch about being tired, aches&pains, not wanting to row, etc. when at least I can breathe. If that makes any sense.

Been there; done that, at least in terms of thinking about it. I got to the point in weight training where body-building was the next step--at 46, I was leg-pressing 300 lbs easily and great body though I might have had, I intimidated any man I would have been attracted to. It's that extreme thing: you get caught up and don't notice where you're going. So it was time to reassess. The ability to push that kind of weight around wasn't the reason I started--wanting general fitness and the strength to do fun stuff like hiking and kayaking and whatever came my way--and I doubted I had the aptitude for that kind of stage. First off, I don't have the type of mind that's usually attached to those types of bodies, as in I have the wide range of interests that sadly amounts to jack of all trades, master of none. And to do that type of body-building, you have to be obsessed with body and diet. Secondly, the diet sucks: egg whites umpteen times a day? Ditto for the protein shakes--and not the kind with berries and yoghurt and Oreo ice cream; no, it's the protein isolates and water. Blech. And lastly, since winning is the objective of those competitions, as in many aspects of our culture, it also really, really helps if you're tall, which I'm not. Oh--and did I mention how boring it is after awhile?

I remember a week like that, with its own thrills and chills: I was weight-training at the time, and while doing leg presses, I started stewing about the object of my fury (make that frothing at the mouth) and busted a rib because I was holding my breath. Oh that I had been rowing at the time!

I hope all is as well as it can be by now.

But what's this "being somewhere near the middle of the pack" guff? Last time I looked, you were #1  And yes, you were referring to the PB times, but doing the math and the time you're putting in for the meters you're doing, my comment stands. And good for you.

Now I've got to gear myself up for rowing after a day off; sometimes that loss of momentum...but someone's got to drive you on to your goal, and niggle the Blacksmith into getting back into the boat, so I guess it's up to me...
