Image 10 or 11 days remaining...

Image Another episode...

Sometimes during these Challenges, there just isn't enough time to expound on bunny trails of the mind...but trust me, they still happen. :D Was driving home last night after bowling (golf league becomes bowling league in the winter...a great equalizer I think), when one of those songs came on the radio. I'll bet everyone has one of those songs... songs that make you drive faster. Of course, some of us don't need any songs to make us drive faster... :D Songs that make us want to drive faster (or with the windows down) also are good music to row faster to...here are a few rock songs that have made the "faster" cut:

Sammy Hagar - I Can't Drive 55
Sammy Hagar - Trans Am (Highway Wonderland)
Van Halen - Poundcake (big motorcycle opener!)
Golden Earring - Radar Love
Foreigner - Rev On The Red Line
AC/DC - Highway To Hell
Don Felder - Heavy Metal (Take A Ride)
Gino Vannelli - Black Cars
ZZ Top - Sharp Dressed Man (anything from Eliminator)
Lynyrd Skynyrd - Born To Run
"Born to be Wild" Steppenwolf
"Going Mobile" The Who
"life in the fast lane" Eagles
"Born to Run" Springstein
"LA Woman" Doors
American Band" Grand Funk Railroad
"Rambling Man" Allman Bros
"Tight rope" Stevie Ray Vaughn
"Hell In a Bucket" Grateful Dead

And, no - no speeding ticket...this time. B)

Post by Kona2 » January 21st, 2012, 10:28 am

Image 9 or 10 days remaining...

Team standings show Luna-Tics at # 5 and Overcoming Disabilities at #13...but that was including Baxter Fitness. Baxter has an error by one of its team members - top rower shows that he has 21 million meters in the challenge, which is what has zoomed them to the number 2 spot. So I just took them off the list and moved us up (ah, if it were always so easy..) . Congratulations, Lunies, on achieving 15 million team challenge meters, and Overcoming Disabilities for achieving 7 million team challenge meters! Looks to be a another great day for rowing! (They're all good!)

Multi million meters

Post by Jodi » January 21st, 2012, 11:03 am

It's crazy to see that individuals can row multi million meters in a season! Wow, I'm impressed. Great job! I seriously can't imagine the time and commitment it would take to accomplish such an endeaver! I bow to you oh rowing gods! B)
I wanted to get a 4 mile run in this morning, but a migraine nixed that idea. So I took my doped up self out to my gym and did a 30 minute row. It's easier on the head, and I'm less likely to run out in front of a car while zoning out. So what didn't work out for my 15k training plan, is a positive as far as the challenge goes. I think I may put off the 15k for another year anyway. Training has been sporadic, and my knee still has twinges of the patella tendonitus when I start putting more time in on the road. So to be safe, and prevent that injury from sidelining my workouts alltogether (again) I'll do the smart thing and listen to my body. :( My husband says that when I hit 50 last year my warranty ran out. He thinks he's sooo funny.
“Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty & well preserved body, rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, used up, totally worn out, & loudly proclaiming "Wow! What a Ride!”

Oops...forgot to say THANK YOU to everyone for rowing all these challenge meters!

And thanks, Jodi, for the spontaneous meters....migraines are no fun, so maybe the rowing helped you feel better! Btw, I'm sure you have the extended warranty with all the exercise. :D Bet you'll be in the meter multi-millionaire class before you're even aware that it's happening....rowing is addictive in all the good ways.

Meanwhile, the thundering erg herd is stampeding towards their millions! Amazingly, this stampede is not confined to one continent...galactic wonders never cease.

Image I think we might just have a first half marathon posted today by Walter! Whoop, whoop! May it be the first of many for you!

He thinks he's sooo funny.

sorry to hear about the migraine...sending healing/healthy thoughts....and sorry you won't be able to do your race....

enrage...did you row or run or half?????it's good either way....

goooooooo pats.....

Re: LUNA-TICS TEAM ROOM: Year-round "Looney" fun.

Post by Rumping » January 21st, 2012, 4:40 pm

I tried a HM today. Was doing great in the first 4500m. Then I got a phone call and never got my groove back. Ended up with lots of little breaks and a pace that was all over the place. I just didn't have the energy or stamina. I did complete it, but it was a tough one.

Of course, it was my first HM attempt that didn't have a rest day before it either, and last night was a 10k PB that took quite a bit out of me. The HM was a bit overeager, but I wanted to make K2 proud (and hit that 1M this weekend, and if I do 1hr and a 2k CD tomorrow I think I'll hit it, but I'm not sure how that'll fit in my schedule. Personally I estimated to hit it Tuesday).

Migraines aren't much fun. My wife suffers from them, so I consider any exercise at all impressive when you have one.
Wim (attempting to get back into rowing shape).

Image 8 or 9 days remaining...

ImageImageThanks to everyone who is rowing with our teams - we've now crossed the 16 million meter milestone for the Luna-Tics Challenge team and Overcoming Disabilities is close to 8 million meters (and has moved up in the rankings from yesterday!). Baxter Fitness still listed, but it will drop in the rankings when the error is fixed. Predict that Free Spirits will be battling back into what is really second place today.

Overcoming Disabilities team has almost reached 400,000 meters as a team average. What an incredible amount of rowing our teammates have accomplished thus far -- and they are still rowing hard! Great work by tremendous people!

Some days it is definitely tough to fit some rowing into the day (gasp - who said that?!). I'm hoping to add some meters to the team today.
