Welcome, Kyle! I took a trip up to Vermont last summer. I enjoyed it. I planned to stop in Morrisville to see if I could take a Concept2 factory tour, but somehow ended up touring Ben & Jerry's in Waterbury instead. At least I didn't order a Vermonster. I can't imagine how many meters it would take to row to burn that off.Kyle J wrote:Hi my name is Kyle, hello everyone. Re: TimbukTOO Team Room
And here we were all b*tching about blisters
Men astound me! Here you (guess who?) risk losing your hand if you don't look after it...I used to be an RN so I know what gunshot wounds look like...and how they heal...or don't heal.... Core blimey, mate! All I was trying to do was catch up after YOU took advantage of my extra day off and THEN went on the power rows for a few days.... I didn't want you to be off there in the distance all by yourself, or get any crazy ideas about trying to catch David--you were only 30 k behind him yesterday, which from where I was watching was tantamount to waving a red flag at a bull.
So now I'm going to have to chase him down all by myself for awhile, but I'll know you'll be with me in spirit--and no doubt trying to overtake me, but I'm heading for 600 K now that I'm this far in. And from previous challenges, you know I won't be rowing 1 metre over 600 once I get there, no matter how many people are trying to pass me.
I nearly changed my avatar to a dancing Snoopy, but while my intention would be to celebrate a day off tomorrow, it could have been misconstrued for a victory dance. So I put him to sleep, and a well deserved rest it is too.

No, no, no; this was not a Freudian slip. Just a tired little puppy talking.damselfly wrote:YOU KILLED SNOOPY?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?Hummingbird wrote:So I put him to sleep...
With all this 'down under' talk, I nearly reverted to an Ocherism (that I never used while I was there, incidentally), being that in Australia, parents often say to guests that they will 'just be a moment while they put the baby down'...which everyone there knows means only to put them to bed. Imagine if I had said I was going to put Snoopy down?
Talk about awkward moments for the newcomer. Like when I was in school, and a girl asked if she could borrow my rubber. Turns out she was talking about an eraser. And never--ever--say you're rooting for a team. Tyrone knows why (unless expressions have changed; I haven't been back for ~20 years.)
Speaking of 20 years, Kyle...ahem: 54 - 41 = 13. So you haven't exercised much, huh? And you're currently in 4th place. Right. Okee-dokee. Can't wait to see what happens in the first day of the next challenge

Re: TimbukTOO Team Room
Just to clear things up on the hand injury-a while back=14 years (holy crap-where did the time go??). I look at it like my back injury-never going to go away, going to hurt here and there, and I refuse to let it stop me from doing what I want to. A while back, I realized that no matter what I do, my body is going to hurt whether I take it easy, or live life the way I want. Sooo, I do what I want, and deal with the inconveniences at times. Feeling much better today. I think I'll take a rest day today, then back to it tomorrow-and I'm probably going to overdo it . And Heather, you think I'll let a teammate chase someone down all by themselves?? NEVER! Loved the red flag and bull analogy-he gave me a chance to pull even, and I couldn't pull it off. Next time-I'll see if I can. The other thing is I feel a few boats not too far behind me, looking to blow by and leave me bobbing in their wake-we have some STRONG rowers on the team.
We're still in 11th place by about 200k-awesome job Everyone

Great going Kyle!! and WELCOME!Kyle J wrote:Hi my name is Kyle, hello everyone. I live in Vermont and have only erged since Dec. 8, 2011 (or exercised at all really).
These boards and challenges have made me row more than I ever thought I could. Unreal! I find the people that are 10,15,20 years older than me that I can't keep up with (Heather) especially motivating. I'll be there someday. My doctor was so impressed with my progress she took me off my blood pressure medicine this am. I have definitely DEpressed a few doctors, first time I've IMpressed one! Thanks TimbukTwo & Concept2
Kyle
I was able to get off my Diabetes meds from exercising (not just rowing) and eating better (although it's been hard breaking the Christmas breakdown). Keep up the good work and watch that you don't overdo it!
Re: TimbukTOO Team Room
I just noticed that today is Day 265 of the 2012 season, which means there are 101 days left this season (thanks to Feb. 29). I am usually more focused on improving my speed rather than distance, but I do have a stretch goal this season is to log 2 million meters (I didn't start ering or logging until Nov. 28; ). So I need to put in about 14,250 each day for the remainder of the season to hit this goal. Tough, but doable.
Where are you all at regarding your 2012 season goals

Re: TimbukTOO Team Room
I'm going to shoot for a million this season. I have 285k left, so should be pretty doable, hoping to scale back a little after the challenge and get back outside more, but still row a couple times a week. I think that should get me there...
I'm obviously not in the Big Dog Kennel, but still, 1MM/season isn't too bad, is it?

Re: TimbukTOO Team Room
I'm still trying to figure out what my goal is! I just got the dang machine in December, never used one prior to that and never EVER was able to go to a gym/club or use exercise equipment (just too dang boring). Add to that the fact that ski season looks like it may have finally arrived in Tahoe...this will create a necessary shift in my activities (I'm one of those guys who works at one job all week then travels 600 miles, throws on a jacket with a flashy white cross, and spends the weekend looking after people who get themselves into "situations" on the hill).CONLEJM wrote: Where are you all at regarding your 2012 season goals
Add all that together and I think I'll just be happy with whatever I get! I'll clear half a million for sure, but I think a million is pretty much out of reach. Right now I'm just trying to get through this darn challenge!

Re: TimbukTOO Team Room
And a fine Friday morning to you all!! I'm happy to report that after a good day's row, we are now stationed at the Arizona - New Mexico border. Thursday night saw us at 7,005,507 meters, or 4,350 miles!
We flew through down the slopes of the Coconino National Forest, stopped for a quick breakfast in Flagstaff, and blazed on down the 40, waving to Jackson Browne as he stood on a corner in Winslow... Took a short sight-seeing spin through Petrified Forest National Park, and then hit the road again. Unfortunately, towns are so sparse out in this part of the Southwest that we had to invert the boat and camp under it last night. And it was COLD!
(What, you thought I was kidding?!?! I actually wrote the text before I went looking for pictures, and was surprised to find the statue/murals. What people won't do as art....)

Pretty lame... I sent them the stuff Monday, and they have confirmed that it was OK, and that "the web team is working on it now..." Still not up Friday. This is about a 3-minute task. Criminey. Oh well.Hummingbird wrote:By the way, Lisa, your name is up on the homepage as the weekly winner, but I didn't see a picture or story yet. I'll check later.

Not too bad? This, from our very own weekly winner?damselfly wrote:...but still, 1MM/season isn't too bad, is it?
Lisa, it's more than most people can do or aim for, given all kinds of factors. This year is the only year I've done more than 1M: looking back at my log since 2002, I came close to 1 M last season, but many of the other years were just under 500,000, and most of those meters were done during challenges when I gasped out 200 K and then packed up the rower until the next bulletin from C2, giving me enough time to get back into form.
I am in awe of all you new rowers, of all ages, stacking up the meters like this was something easy we're doing here. It's not--particularly at first. Conclusion: team motivation works! Yay team!
Heather.
