Sigh. That's what I get for being on the west coast! Did 21K last night but didn't upload in time to make the stats. So it should be: "An absolutely delicious 26 of 68 members (38%) logged a stupendous 511,470 total meters!"

Normally I wouldn't care, but in this case it means that the team did more than half a million in a day which seems pretty cool.

UNCLE!! Yes, that's correct. I need to "dial it back" for a couple days. Got a cramp in the right hand-muscle between thumb and forefinger is locking up. That's what I get for messing with a Hummingbird   . BUT, I'll be getting back to it as I can. Did 22k(with the cramp going the whole time) today, and am beat. Still, this is a great competition and I'm not done yet B) .

Now THIS is going to be a great story to tell around the fireplace on a cold winter's night ... "gather 'round grand-kids, and let me tell you the story of the graceful Hummingbird who bested the mighty Blacksmith!". :o

(of course, she's whoopin' nearly all the rest of us, too ... )

Make that the "not-so mighty" and you'll have it right   , and I've been getting bested for a while now. BUT, I'm not done in the Challenge yet!

I generally have the TV on with cc running as well since I like some visual with my audio, and staring at grey cinder blocks just won't do.
What is funny though, is that my times are 20-30 seconds better @ 11k when my wife is next to me on the treadmill and commandeers the remote. I end up rowing with my eyes closed for 1/4 to 1/3 of the row and focus more on the pain, er...row, rather than Willie Geist.

ps: I tend to lurk rather than comment, but I also want to thank the leadership of the boat on their motivation and dedication to keeping us upright and in line; not just for this challenge, but for their consistent year long efforts. I enjoy the daily map update and the refreshed in boat/ on board smack talk. Thanks!

Good to see others joining in the comments. I see 55 mambers yet only about a dozen posting anything here. Glad to see the "others" (and theOtherOne) ARE reading this stuff!.

Have you seen the seat cushion Mp3 player holder? I think I would opt for one of these (or at least give it a try) before I would do the arm-band thing.

People? I only see one bird, umm, person within 100 km of the smithing man. The hummer may be able to buzz on by him, but unless those cramps last for days we're going to have to be a bit more devious.

Here's what we do: Heather can go row up right next to him and distract him by constantly flitting around back and forth making him look away from the rest of us. Meanwhile David (who is obviously in need of a challenge) can row backward and come back here with a long rope. Tyrone is sleeping down under, so I'll have a chance to put a leash on him and hook our two boats together. We'll grab David's rope, hook a bunch of us into one giant 8 and Katerina can run up and cox for us (seems only fair since we'll be picking on her dad).

With any luck we'll have him so confused that he'll forget about his cramps altogether!

It's not a strange place if you saw my hand. A while back I was working in a machine shop running an abrasive water jet (basically a water pic with 55,000 PSI behind it, the water stream runs at about mach 1) and blew a hole in my hand-basically like a gunshot wound. I'm lucky I still have fingers. My grip is a little different, so I use different muscles. I grip with my thumb more than the index finger, so that's why that's the muscle that's cramping-hope that wasn't TMI. And I said I was dialing it back, NOT stopping

That hangnail sounds like a terrible injury

Hi my name is Kyle, hello everyone. I live in Vermont and have only erged since Dec. 8, 2011 (or exercised at all really).
These boards and challenges have made me row more than I ever thought I could. Unreal! I find the people that are 10,15,20 years older than me that I can't keep up with (Heather) especially motivating. I'll be there someday. My doctor was so impressed with my progress she took me off my blood pressure medicine this am. I have definitely DEpressed a few doctors, first time I've IMpressed one! Thanks TimbukTwo & Concept2

Hi Kyle: congratulations on the excellent medical progress! That's why I am rowing too: I got diagnosed with high cholesterol and thanks to a better diet and much more exercise, I have improved much (to my doctor's delight).

I was hoping you would come aboard the boards! You and I have been playing musical chairs for several days now! Don't forget to take a day or two of rest once in a while!

You are keeping me on my toes! Keep up the great work!
