Re: TimbukTOO Team Room
This sounds WAY too familiar! Besides being a statistic geek myself - to the point that I calculate and re-calculate my times, splits, strokes, etc. as I row - it has happened many times that after having done my row for the day, I see someone on RowPro I like to row with, or a distance race I like to row, or someone on RowPro talks me into doing his workout with him, and back I go for another round of torture. (Number 1 offender is an Aussie cop & kayaker named Peter Skene who does everything full tilt, and has talked me into being his "rabbit" [pace setter] for his insane workouts a few times.) I hope Nietzsche was right when he said, "That which does not kill us makes us stronger."glenmbaker wrote:I generally start with an overall goal for the day and then do it in pieces. The problem is that there are just soooo many milestones that it goes like this:BoB/335 wrote:Who here plans their row around a time factor and who plans it around distance?
"OK...let's try to do 10K. That's a pretty big row, I'll be happy with 10K. Let's see, today let's create a descending set, 3k, 2.5k, 2k, 1.5k, 1k with 30 seconds rest. That will be 10k, then I can go out and play".
Start rowing. While rowing start thinking. "Hmm...I took a couple of days off which puts me pretty far back. Maybe I can push it to 15k today"
Finish the row. Set up something that adds up to 5k. Think about the stats "Hey, if I do this 5k then I'm only 4.7k away from crossing 100k for the challenge. Heck, that's nothing...let's do another 5k after this".
Finish the row. Set up the 5k. Start thinking "Well at this point, if I only go 2k further I'll break 400k since I started rowing a month and a half ago"
Finish the row. Set up something that will get me across that lifetime mark. Start rowing. Start thinking "Well at THIS point I'm over 20k which is officially ridiculous. Wonder if I can get into insane mode? Let's push it past 25k for the day". Look online. Discover a 20 minute session about to start. Join the row. Get peer-pressured into rowing at a pace that pushes me well past 5k for the 20 minutes. Finish the row, note that my total is getting close to 30k for the day which is past ridiculous and approaching ludicrous.
OK, just a bit more and we'll cross 30k...what the heck. Set up the row. Get across 30k. Upload the rows. Look at the stats. "Dang...Tyrone is STILL 1004 meters ahead of me". Set up a 1005 meter row. Do it. Upload. Admire the fact that I've finally advanced exactly one position.
Dang statistics...they're KILLING me!

My apologies! It reminds me of the Court Jester who made so many puns, who made the king groan so often, that the king finally sentenced him to death.
Standing on the gallows with the noose around his neck and the executioner itching to pull the floor out from under him, the Jester was suddenly approached by the King. "If you promise never to make any more puns, I will grant you a Stay of Execution!" the King offered. "I promise! I promise!" assured the Jester. The King gave the signal, the Executioner removed the rope, and the Jester breathed a sigh of blessed relief.
"Well," asked the Executioner, "What do you say about getting a new lease on life?" The Jester replied, "You know what they say: "No noose is good noose!"

Re: TimbukTOO Team Room
Hi Guys, the 71k is a glitch on my log card. I did 27k that day. I added up all my #'s and the TOTAL that's posted is correct.
71k-I'd have to change my name to Hercules
Nice #'s everyone-I'm impressed by the efforts-We'll be in Miami in no time!

Izzy and Glenn -just letting you know that I am taking a break tomorrow - just giving you a chance to catch up
Re: TimbukTOO Team Room
Now I know how Cal Ripken Jr. and Lou Gehrig felt; I think the only day I've taken off is Jan 1. But the "LSD" days are pretty restful, and we've less than two weeks to go in this challenge. I will try to keep the streak going. Our team is chugging along admirably, and I like contributing.Izzzmeister wrote: Jim C - 21,061 The daily row streak extends!
And I am at 928K lifetime, so I am hoping by the end of the week to hit my first (recorded) million meters.

Re: TimbukTOO Team Room
Note to self: NEVER watch Big Bang Theory season 4 while erging- way too hard to maintain a steady row while laughing my %$# off
Re: TimbukTOO Team Room
I woke up today thinking "hey, I have done 20k in the last two days, do I really need to go do another 10?" So I closed my eyes, and yet did not fall asleep, finally I threw off the blanks with a "Fine, I guess I do!"
I feel good having done it, but at the same time MAN am I feeling what I am doing. Not only was it a bit harder to get through the full 10k today, but I also pushed myself a bit faster so that I could beat my previous best pace. I did so by 29 seconds! I don't think I will be beating my new best time this week, maybe next. Either way I think I will be able to finish my 100k by the end of the month.
I also found out that when people make the joke "my blisters have blisters!" they are not lying. I literally have blisters under my blisters Whatever, they will heal and callus and all will be good.
A big thanks to all of you putting on so many meters and motivating me to get out of bed just because I feel the need to TRY to keep up as much as I can!
Also, Thank you for the welcome. I am enjoying this group enough that I figured I could not go wrong joining in with the affiliation.

Re: TimbukTOO Team Room
Yesterday was actually my "off day" where I do other things besides row. Decided to do a 10 minute interval anyway with 1 minute normal and 1 minute hard alt. for 11 minutes. Then 20 minutes on the eliptical and worked the legs after that. Trying to mix it up a bit. Did my 10k this morning plus a light upper body and jumping jacks and jumping rope. (Trying to keep it uhmmm...... REAL)Bob G - 2,500 Quarter dose of meds…

Matt, you're doing great!! Take an LSD hit from Jim and slow it down too -- not every day has to be fast and furious!!
Hmmmm... Sounds like RowPro is NOT something I want to get into....
Mark, BBT is my FAVE!! I can't imagine trying to row when that's on.
Off to the hills for me today.
Row big or row home!!!
