Great improvement, Bufflehead. You'll have caught my 10K in no time. I'm gonna have to get going to stay ahead of you.

Little weed - Now you can attack all those lightweight records! Great going, skinny butt.

KathiS - congrats to you too.

Everybody's chugging right along, 'cept me. I've got a head cold and am proud of myself for just getting on the erg and pulling for awhile. Did Just Row yesterday hoping to get in 10K. Did it and stayed for 55 minutes (10,669 @ 2:34.9 - not bad for a sicky, huh?)

-Harly

thought i'd skip the training plan today (because it was gonna be a painful one) and went for a new pb as a lightweight. did a 30mins and got 6734m (57m extra on my previous heavyweight pb). so i'm quite pleaased with that. back to the sensible stuff tomorrow and THE PAIN. i'm such a coward - i don't like it when it hurts.

jane

Sure, this was my first one, but that means it's the best, doesn't it? I did a 250 sprint yesterday, arms and back only (I've got a broken leg), and got 1:08.6. I skidded all over from a 2:07 to a 2:30 split, though, so I'd like to see if I can keep it steadier next time.

Good grief! If I don't check this site often enough, all sorts of new things appear!
Kathi - I read your bio. That is truly inspirational. Kudos for adopting a new, healthy lifestyle!
Hey Little Weed - how does it feel to be a LWT? Great, huh?
Cassie - great job of keeping up with workouts - even with the broken leg!
And Harly - what a good example you are! Working out when you don't feel up to par.

Keep up the good work everybody! Won't we all be a fit bunch when we're old and in our rocking chairs? To heck with rocking chairs. We'll all still be on our C2s!

Bufflehead

Great job little weed!

Thank you, Bufflehead. If I had known how satisfying it is to live healthier, I probably would have done it a lot sooner! I am glad though that I have made the change, not only for myself, but for my daughters. I didn't have very good role models for healthy living when I was young, and I am more determined than ever to be a great role model for my girls.

Thanks again, Linda, for the advice! My husband and I are both so glad we bought the C2 and discovered this online community to help inspire us both.

Cassie ... I also have a broken leg .. I can't get my right leg on the footplate at all so I have adapted a cushion on the floor . I now do at least 10k every other day but now a lot slower that I had been doing as I think I may have been doing the leg more harm than good trying to go fast so just be careful sprinting .

I do a 2k warm up then a 30 mins at 20spm .usually at 2.30.. and then another 2k cool down. I have also been doing some abs I have one one of those abroller thingies and have been using that . I also have some tiny hand weights and I have been watching tv whilst doing a small workout which I made up myself .

Well I decided to give rowing strapless a try today and started with a 500 meter warmup, then did my very first 10K followed by another 500 meter cool down. I kept my spm between 24-28 through the entire workout, and was pleasantly surprised to find that my pace didn't really suffer very much. I really didn't push that hard as I was really concentrating on my technique. My goal for my first 10K was simply to get under 1 hour, which I did at 54.52.3, which puts me at 89% for my age and weight group, which is just about where most of my times are.

I sure wish I had discovered rowing a long time ago!

Way to go Kathi S !!!

Well, I don't know if this goes under PB, but I decided that it should!

I just did the first workout since getting my rower (what, 12 days ago) that really felt like I was training and working out. Anyway, I did a 10 minute warm up (1617 meters), and then 1 minute intervals hard/easy for 20 minutes (3599 meters) followed by a 5 minute cooldown (712 meters). It felt so good!

(and that was on top of me doing a really short workout that I did early this morning. Had planned on doing the above workout, but the alarm clock seemed to keep hitting snooze for me! didn't have time for much this morning, but it did get me loosened up!) Maybe I'll try another 30 minute piece this weekend and see if i've gotten any faster...have to enjoy the fast progress of the first couple of weeks, right?)

Carole: I haven't been doing full stroke, so it doesn't really make too much of a difference to my legs what speed I go at.

I did my second 250 yesterday (still arms and back only) and brought it down to 1:07.7, almost a full second faster, which seems a lot to me. I kept it between a 2:13 and a 2:16, also, which I was quite proud of.

I finished the Lake Champlain rowing game today. I started my 478,000 meter journey on Oct. 11, 2004 and finished it today (Feb. 19, 2005).

Now where will I row???

Wow! That's great! I've been thinking of getting the game too. Have you done the other game that they have yet?

I am still trying to decide when to do that. I just started a training plan developed by a coach and have been using my RowPro software. I am finding that the combination of these two things is making my workouts interesting and less boring.

I suspect I will be rowing less on the erg during the warmer months, as I will be kayaking and hiking more. I think maybe I will consider Terra Firma in the fall when it becomes time to move indoors for consistant exercise again. What I liked about Lake Champlain is that it was a real place that I got to learn about, and that monies were raised for conservation. I wish there were more real places for virtual rows!
