We spent a lovely evening resting on the south shore of the Great Salt Lake. Very peaceful. But Smitty got us up EARLY to hit the waterway and get us heading west again!!

BTW, I get these pics from Panoramio.com, where you can see shared images by geographic location, so they do correspond to our trip route!
I think you're doing a great job!!!

Love this!!!!! :D The teamroom is getting to be a whole bunch o' fun these days!! :)

I'm glad I'm way down at #21 in the team standings, so I can stay out of the bloodbath that's going on at the top!

Bob -- I love that C2 took your suggestion. It just made NO sense that season meters weren't there anywhere. Anything else you got them to change?

Heather, I'm reminded of a place we stay outside of Yosemite that is frequented by dozens and dozens of hummies. This shot was from February, when I was shocked to see so many birds there, in the snow! The B&B has several feeders up and the birds are so wonderful to watch as they chase each other about.

Image

We have one species here year-round and three more in the summer months. I used to get hoards of them at my feeders but for some reason not so much these days. Perhaps their range has changed or since we've had some wet years, their natural food supply has been more reliable.

Smitty -- an iron hummingbird? Kinda like skydiving with an anvil! :)

Row team, row!!

IF you were the paranoid type?! After reading so much into a cartoon of a cute little puppy playing around on his doghouse?
In the theoretical situation that that nice woman MIGHT be gunning for some people, she just hit 6MM lifetime, I just hit 6.25MM lifetime. I'm planning on enjoying being ahead of her for about one more month in that category. Or maybe I can convince her to take a vacation about then...

Anyone who pokes their head in the team room Feb 1 will see nothing but bloody corpses. At this rate, we're not going to live long enough to take on the rest of the world!

Good point- don't like bloody corpses. I guess there's a not so fine line between encouragement and getting just a bit too "rowdy" (for lack of a better word). I'm still really impressed at the level of hard work and dedication that everyone is making for this challenge. It's not easy, and the difficulty of everyone doing this basically alone really adds to the "Challenge". I know that when I started erging last March, 5-10k was a hard workout. 10-11 months later, all the suffering has paid off. I didn't think I could keep up this level of effort, but so far, so good-thanks to a lot of help from my teammates! Tomorrow is an off day-I'm going to take a hammer making class on Long Island at a buddies shop. Besides doing 27k this A.M., I loaded up 2 anvils, 1 at 250 lbs, 1 at 225 lbs, plus stands-the stand for the big anvil weighs about 150 or so, the other a mere 85 or so. plus a 100lb propane furnace. Adds to the workout   . And tomorrow I get to play with fire, and hit stuff with hammers to make a hammer. Nice to play once in a while!
oh, and then I get to put all the toys back in the shop sunday-ugh

I stand in awe of you, Smitty! You are amazingly strong!! Have a great time tomorrow. Maybe after you will merit a new nick-name -- Thor!

I just want to say seriously that I don't mean anything by the "bloodbath" and "corpses" comments -- just my version of the banter that goes on here. I actually think we have a fun, healthy amount of intra-team competition. Like in my running group, there's some competition, yes, but also lots of support and encouragement here. If that weren't present, then no, it wouldn't be healthy!!

Now, even more seriously, Cap'n Izz is off on shore-leave till Sunday, so I have the helm. So... Row, you scurvy dogs, ROW!!!! (Hey! I didn't say there was never going to be unbridled abuse!!)

Mark, between your rowing heroics and your very awesome profession/hobby, I am in awe! :D

I think the whole team is doing a great job; our average meters per member for this challenge is near the top of the heap!

Mark, have a great day forging Mjölnir (Thor's Hammer)!

You go for it! You'll never be so proud of a t-shirt in all your life, regardless of when you get it. I still feel chuffed when I wear mine--even though no-one else has a clue what it means (and even though it's now totally unwearable out in public, other than at a gym). But you will know exactly what it took to get there. Good luck!

I didn't forget, so if that's what sneaking means to you, just wait....heh heh heh.

But congratulations on the heroic effort. And then, yes, yes, to rub it in, you went off to your day-job as Thor. But if you think that reading about all that awesome poundage you tossed around today was going to put me off, think again; because if you look at it another way, everything you said just makes me look more intimidating as the competition

I'll concede that I gasped when I saw what I was going to have to make up--which is what I get for taking a self-indulgent celebratory day off. But make it up I shall; I'm sure you would expect and want no less.

I don't think anyone in his or her right mind would misconstrue what's going on up here at the front of the boat as anything but horsing around to keep up spirits, ours and theirs, and from the feedback I saw, the rowdier the better. Rough-house is different, and I can't conceive it happening. Everyone who is rowing knows how much effort it takes, whether 2 K or 20 k is their daily max. The sensible people have set their limits, factoring in time and everything else they want to achieve in a day, and won't be affected by what others are achieving; the rest of us obviously need to get...therapy.

Have a great day off tomorrow, and why not Sunday, too, while you're at it? You deserve it! (Where O where is the snigger smiley?)

Signed,
The Red Barron

Loved the picture Lisa; what a treat that would be to see out the window every day. It might even make the snow worthwhile!

Ahoy, shipmates!! Just a quick report of challenge stats before I'm off to collapse into bed. I was so encouraged by all your examples that I put in 9k this afternoon after a morning 6-miler and then all the housework and laundry. You people are going to kill me!

A very lucky 27 of 65 members (42%) logged 355,471 total meters this Friday the 13th!! Nicely done, mates! Sadly, despite our best efforts, we have dropped into 12th place... :( But it's still a long way to Miami, so keep the faith!

And a big TimBukTWO welcome to new oarsman Mark Bucherl!! Hop on into the boat, find a comfy seat, and enjoy. Pop on in here to the forum and introduce yourself if you're so inclined!

Due to technical difficulties (i.e. C2 changed the format of the affiliation page and I'm tired), the regular affiliation reporting will be delayed until tomorrow AM sometime. Or maybe PM. It may be a two-day total. I'll do me best. :|
