Wanting the 10M sweatshirt for Christmas 2012 means it ain't over for me by a long shot. But if I go over my 400 K/month during this challenge, it not only helps the affiliation standing, it means I get to take a week or more vacation in another month (or sick leave  ).

Congratulations, Heather!! Totally Oar-some!! And another 4 mil in less than 12 months? Holy smokes!!

(Can I sell you some of my meters? )

Lets see, weekends are rough for me... late start... Lets go 75,000 meters for this challenge. Might have to add on if I hit it to early ;)

*edit* Actually, minimum anyone is running seems to be 100k. I'll call that my goal. Make it something I am not sure I can hit. Supposed to be a challenge right?
OK, Matthew (or do you prefer Matt?), I got you down for 100k. You got some rowin' to do, brutha!!

Wow!!! A LOT of chatter on here these days. I have to catch up on pages at a time for just to catch up on less than a day!!!

Anyone see anything "different" on the Log Homepage? "Hint" remember any of my repeated questions. I turned it over to Dena in Customer Service and they liked my ideas.

 if all else fails, I can squeeze in a couple hour long rows during the weekend I think.

I think I am going to have to wake up a bit earlier and extend my morning rows beyond the half hour. Maybe try to alternate half hour and hour rows. I will see how it goes, if I can swing this I am going to try to go for my first million mark by the end of June.

The Blacksmith wrote: I was really wondering about the appropriateness of your handle, then thought- Don't Hummingbirds migrate to South America or something like that?? Now the handle is not so surprising :P
As the author of the now infamous 'thong' entry, I imagine you've already gathered that 'appropriate' is not my middle name. Ahem; in my defense, I'm extremely new to forums, which means I'll just have to live it down and wait a very long time before I post a picture of myself.

But re: the Hummingbird. Yes! They are incredible little animals and my 'handle' was simply because at the time I joined TimbukToo, I had a little Hummingbird resident on the tomato cage on my veranda, staking out her territory on my feeder, and which never ceased to entertain me while I was rowing. Who knew that Hummingbirds were so vicious! Along came this scrawny little male bully and after a face-off across the rungs, the first Hummingbird disappeared, leaving the more transient male as victor.

So ran my thoughts at the time, but the plot thickens:

Further investigation prompted the conclusion that the first Hummingbird was one of an Alaskan species en route to Central America, merely resting to put on a bit of fat (i.e. ounces) to help her on the second stage of her journey. She never quite fell asleep on her perch, but she was pretty well there most of the day. Subsequent reflection on my part forced me to realize that, before she left, she was definitely fatter than the (now) svelte male that has replaced her, still sweet but only arriving once or twice a day to sip the nectar from the feeder. I guess I can look forward to her return in April, and meanwhile enjoy the miracle that visits each day.

But yes, the 'handle' is definitely a misnomer: those tiny, tiny animals fly 20 miles/day in migration: that works out to 32 km of rowing. No way, Jose! (So she says now, he thinks to himself! ).

Cheerio; enjoy #2 while it lasts!!!   Which applies to me as well: I doubt John is going to let me stay #2 in the affiliation listing after his triathlon victory in May--which gives you plenty of time to sneak up into spot #3 while he's not looking (heh heh heh).

Let the sneaking begin! Forgot to add my stats yesterday-12.9k-took it easy, 27k this A.M. I think I'll dig around in the shop-I made an iron Hummingbird some years ago-time to hang it from the monitor for additional motivation-between that and Izzys "Board of Education" it'll keep me focused

you know, I just saw that a teammate on the affiliation page put up a pic of the "Red Baron" looking like they're out gunning for someone-or more than one. If I was the paranoid type I'd think there was something intended subliminally :? But, I must be wrong

I never realized how much like a game of "leap-frog" or "musical chairs" a team challenge could be. :o There's more competition within the team than there is between teams!

Woo-hoo!! Out of Wyoming and halfway through Utah!! Thursday night we had 4,225,262 meters, or 2,624 miles!! Nice rowing, teammates! Pat yourselves on the back (put down the oars first -- don't want to smack a fellow rower on the head!). Onwards now into Nevada!!

Image

We spent a lovely evening resting on the south shore of the Great Salt Lake. Very peaceful. But Smitty got us up EARLY to hit the waterway and get us heading west again!!

BTW, I get these pics from Panoramio.com, where you can see shared images by geographic location, so they do correspond to our trip route!
