Today was a "light" day for me, though I went a little farther and longer than usual. I forget about the pace (which I am usually obsessed with), and just go at a comfortable speed. Normally I am exhausted after a rowing session, but after a light day, I still have some energy. Something Mark said a while back inspired me to start doing this a few days a week.

I just thought I would pop in and say I have joined up with your team at least for the virtual team challenge. Hope you all don't mind a newby hopping into your boat with you!

Hoping to turn out some decent numbers for the team in what is left of this challenge, though not as much as some of you :shock:

Welcome, Matthew!! I hope you have fun and meet whatever goals you set for yourself. Any and all meters are welcome. I hope you like us enough to join us year-round! :)

Edit to add: I will be off the boat tomorrow. I really could use a rest. Today's run was 6 miles, 1200 feet elevation gain/loss. (I'm starting some training to gain more hill strength.) Turns out there are a lot of the same muscles involved running uphill as rowing. Who knew! :P :lol:

I have been reading through the thread and pretty sure I will fit in just fine :)

As for goals, basically I am just looking to lose some weight and get in better shape in general. And to beat my half marathon time from last year. Almost 2 hours... Granted I only trained for about 4 weeks prior, having never touched a rowing machine before... Needless to say, my hands were sore and blistered, and I didn't want to sit on anything not cushioned for the rest of the day.

Otherwise... basically just looking for a place to talk to people who actually "get" rowing, because everyone I know in person, they don't get it.

Hey, that's not bad.... the ONLY HM I've ever done was 2:10:xx and I'd been rowing a while!! Haven't tried one since.

Check back a few pages for discussion of derriere defense. We've all been there!!

Go, Kat, Go!! Impressive numbers!! You're going to be giving your dad some good competition soon... Keep him on his toes. :lol:

I went a few pages back, saw something about thongs? Decided to stop there until I get a drink in my hand tonight then see where that path leads.

In other news, I did another 30 minute row this morning after waking up incredibly late and almost being late to work because i was determined to finish the row. I managed my personal best, 6456m. In the middle I also decided to try and see how fast I can do 500m. That ended up at 1:56.... I do not suggest doing that in the middle of a long row.

Do blisters on your hands stop eventually when you get callused enough? Because if I am going to be popping these every day my wife is going to hit me :lol:

Also, I didn't mean to mock other peoples times for a half marathon, I just look at my ranking and sigh because its pretty down there, but then people have been doing this for years... I really had no business doing a HM at that point, but I seem to enjoy punishing myself.

Matthew... I got these when I first started out and have rowed with them ever since. No issues with blisters at all, very easy to get used to and wear like iron (look the same as the day they arrived). Hope this helps. :D

Oh no!!! We're still stuck in Wyoming!! The state is bigger than it looks..... Yesterday saw us at 3,817,054 meters, or 2,370 miles... We overnighted in the thriving metropolis of Table Rock, Wyoming, 2010 population of zero (down from 82 in 2000).

We had some company for a while on the nearby Union Pacific tracks, but as he had diesel engines, had an unfair advantage, and soon left us in the dust.

Diesel schmiesel. We've got David, Heather, and a Blacksmith who can all whip any old train engine any time they feel like it. And let's just see how well those Union Pacific hunks of iron do when they have to get across any decent sized body of water....ha!
