Re: TimbukTOO Team Room
Boy-totally tired this A.M.-struggled to do 13k. Think my body is getting caught up to all the meters I've been doing. Think I'll try later for more and see what happens.
Re: TimbukTOO Team Room
It has been rough going for the start of the year.
I took a week off during which I ate my way across the city.
Work has been mentally draining- the corporate world makes demands that are a challenge of their own to meet.
And after rowing 290K last month, I think my body just needed a change in routine.
So I am doing 50% of my routine on thr ARC trainer and rowing less.
I keep telling myself that I will do some evening rowing.
But between the early morning routine at the gym, dog walking, my job, and life as I know it, there is not much energy or enthusiasm left by the end of the day for a 2nd session on the erg.
I think I am doing ok for a 64 year old- I still enjoy the feeling of going all out- balls to the wall as we used to call it- but I cant do that 2 or 3 times a week.
So far I have staved off injury- and that is essential.
My goal for the short and medium term is to go faster and maintain the faster pace for longer.
The Team Challenge, immediately after the fund raiser and the xmas / new year holiday is more than I can do this year.
I am still shadowboxing the Apocalypse- need some help......
Peace Out

Boy, you men stick together, don't you? Well, watch out!
Hey, Gary, sounds like you're overwhelmed. Do whatever you need to do to maintain balance and health. No worries.
Rest up, Mark!!

Re: TimbukTOO Team Room
A big, big Monday, team!! We achieved 3,115,637 meters, or 1,935 miles, by Monday night!! Woot!! That left us just outside of North Platte, NE. We should leave Nebraska behind and row into Wyoming today!!! Nice work!!
We were able to get off the interstate and onto the North Platte River for some more relaxed rowing. I think some of the guys at the back were slacking off and fishing, though!!

Re: TimbukTOO Team Room
It is nice to know that I am routinely outrowed by an 80-year-old from a Florida retirement community. At least I can celebrate the fact that my hip flexor strain of 2011 didn't follow me into 2012. Therefore, I'm injured just slightly more often than a woman more than twice my age.
On the upside, I have unlocked the secret to improving rowing power and endurance. It is Shiner Bock. The first test came Friday as I leveraged both hands to facilitate the rapid consumption of tortilla chips and Shiner. I awoke the next morning and rowed a half marathon (improved endurance). Test #2 came last night where I changed the variable (swapped tortilla chips for a real dinner). I awoke this morning and got an extra 2k+ out of my daily row (improved speed/power).
I'm clearly ready to post my conclusions on Livestrong.com/Wikipedia and schedule a global speaking tour.

Galloping gunwhale, Batman!! Our boat is flying across the country!! Tuesday night had us at 3,504,632 meters, or 2,176 miles, and we tied up between Cheyenne and Laramie, Wyoming!! Woo-hoo!
Scenery sure is pretty, but we're going to start heading uphill soon, so pull, team, pull!!!

I'm off the boat today (maybe several ). I have a date with some hills today and Friday, and a full schedule tomorrow (but may try to squeeze in a couple 15-minute sessions).
Hang tough, team! We're hitting the mid-challenge doldrums. It's impossible to put out killer effort for an entire month. Pace yourselves and get some rest!! (Says she who has not had a rest day all year....)

I keep trying to find time to rest, but every time I even blink I get sprayed by the wake of somebody flying by me!damselfly wrote: Pace yourselves and get some rest!!
I guess I just need a new definition of the term "rest": just row with your eyes closed!
