TimbukTOO Team Room
Re: TimbukTOO Team Room
Thank you very much for the warm welcome! I've dabbled in erg'ing for 25 years, but I finally got hooked last month with the Holiday Challenge. I just started rowing in earnest and logging meters on Nov. 28, and I have made great progress in just a month. That challenge was a great motivator for me, and I hope this one will be as well. My goal for this team challenge is 200k. I can't imagine how hard it must be to row millions of meters per year, but I hope to find out.
It feels good to finally be using this rower I bought many years ago! Happy New Year to all!

Good for you JIm!!!! The challenges are great motivation. The competition has NOTHING on Concept 2 in that area!
I just did 200,00 for the Holiday Challenge. It's a committment. I'm backing down to 150,000 for this one. The monetary contributions helped push me a bit further than I really wanted to go but it was worth it to help out!
Good luck on your 200,000!
Re: TimbukTOO Team Room
I didn't even realize that I hit the 1/2 mil mark for the season. They are not posted as my total on my log page. I'll hit the lifetime mil mark before the season is over and hopefully make the mil nark for the seaon. before the season is over.

Re: TimbukTOO Team Room
First off- Happy New Year All!!
I started the new year with a bang-first half marathon -1 hour 35 min and change. I wasn't happy with the time, but then started thinking about taking in account the injury crap (and being 5'10" and 195 lbs), and now I don't think it's too bad. Now let's see if I can improve over the month. Hit 2.5 mill this A.M. (too busy with the ice cream yesterday), which is my lifetime total, since I got the machine last March. Would have been a lot more, but in the warm weather I am out in my dory a lot (it's why I got the erg-make me fit enough to get on the water) and that kept my indoor #'s down-and I don't mind that-love to row on the water. Love that 1,565 mile figure also
Cheers,
Mark Emig

It was feeling fine, until I tried modifying my stroke with a longer reach at the catch which I thought might create a more efficient stroke (watching the force curve). At first this felt kind of good, but after a while it became clear that this was actually too much load on the shoulder so I stopped doing it. Too late though, I didn't actually injur anything but this morning the shoulders are saying "hey, hang on a sec and let us sort ourselves out", so I'm going to listen to them and lay off for a day or two (I'm sure I could row, but it probably wouldn't be a brilliant move).
Dang..that will make for a slow start for the challenge, but at least there's no snow so skiing won't be getting in my way anytime soon!
Re: TimbukTOO Team Room
A healthy and prosperous New Year to everyone!! I'm going to try for 155,000m. I've participated with the team some before but haven't been consistent about joining for every team challenge. Circumstances are different this time around, just got down-sized from my company; always a risk when you have two technology executives. I need something to help with the stress and this couldn't come at a better time. I'll try to hold up my end and keep my sanity while the job search progresses. I really like the updates on everyones' progress and being part of a great team! Best of luck to everyone. Take care.

Re: TimbukTOO Team Room
Lief, sorry to hear about your downsizing, but kudos to you jumping on the erg (or doing anything!) to manage that stress. I've been in that boat too and exercise for me is the solution to any stress. Best wishes in your hunt!
Glen, watch that shoulder! You're not bending your arms until the final stage of the drive, are you?
Mark, nice start to the challenge! And dammit, I thought we'd broken you of your miles-versus-meters predilection...

Re: TimbukTOO Team Room
This was something I was trying strictly at the catch, extending my arms further by rolling the shoulders forward and then leaving them rolled during the initial drive. Not a good idea, it feels like it puts extra stress on the joint itself. Not really a big deal, but the bio feedback says "hey...don't do that!" It'll be fine tomorrow (and I'll start contributing to the challenge!)damselfly wrote: Glen, watch that shoulder! You're not bending your arms until the final stage of the drive, are you?

Found last year's first post: We had 37 members, of which 20 rowed 189,656m. We ended with 43 members, just over 8 million meters. With 40% more sign-ups on Day 1, perhaps we can break the 10MM barrier this year!
We also have 33 team members who have not signed up for this challenge. Yes, you may have until January 15th to sign up, but please don't leave us in suspense...
Yes, you can still add your name to our Challenge Goals section – making your goal public can motivate you to reach it...

Re: TimbukTOO Team Room
Day 2- 1/2 marathon #2. How do the "Big Dogs" do the 20k day after day??? There I was thinking, "how hard can it be??" Hehehe-now I know-and I only have done it twice Looking forward to trying it again tomorrow (how crazy is that??).
And as for the mileage conversion thing-I relate to distances, as in I think to myself I went from A to B on the water, but relating to it in kilometers doesn't work for me. Maybe if I start clocking distances in KM when I go somewhere I might be able to.

Nothing motivates me more than seeing a big "0" near my name - thanks for the kick in the pants, Izzzmeister! I typically take weekends off; those two days of rest do wonders for me. I just rowed 60 minutes and did a new PB. Gonna be a good month!

Goal for the month: 275K.

Re: TimbukTOO Team Room
Hey, y'all!! I thought I'd try something fun for this challenge to help motivate us and give a little visualization to our challenge efforts. Our intrepid Cap'n has postulated that we might in fact make our team goal 10 million meters for this challenge. That translates to about 6200 miles. Wow!!
I started dinking around in Google maps to see what kind of journey across the US that might be like. Well, since it's winter and most folks might be wanting to head south, I arbitrarily started out in Bangor, Maine (brrrr!!) and headed cross-country to San Fransico, then back across the country again to Miami, Florida (ahhhhhh!!!). This comes out to about 6379 miles. So, I want to track out team progress across this route daily as we row our way through the challenge!
Here's our planned route. So, get those oars dippin' and let's get this boat moving!!!

Now there's a great idea! And you figured in the miles Only problem is, how can I come along if you don't swing by the Hudson Valley and pick me up
