Thanks, Baz. Yes cross-fit is expensive if you go to their gymns. But...on their website they have a whole section devoted to setting up in your own garage very inexpensively. That's what I do - with my son as coach. I know how to mooch when I have to! And I totally agree about having the regular heart check-ups. Those are essential.BAZzy wrote:Thanks for sharing that Ross, and I know you are a big fan of Cross-Fit (your Airforce son does it from memory??), and I must say I like the concept of it, but found it quite expensive. But I agree with your general sentiment; however my caveat would be to have regular heart check-ups just to make sure all is as it should be. I’m scheduled again shortly given my ‘statistic’ advances by one tonight!rsdavr wrote:I haven't been reading the forum for a few weeks - too many other things crowding my life this time of year. But I took a few minutes to review it today - what a great read! Our team is awesome in encouraging one another and at the same time sharing valuable information.
I want to weigh in on the heartbeat discussion. I'm naturally interested since huge portions of my life have been affected by abnormal heart issues. My cardiologist is also one who says "If you feel good - do it". Don't worry about the number. But I've found that "feeling good" is interpreted differently by different people. I don't feel good emotionally or phsychologically unless I've pushed my exertion to the point of physical strain. Physical strain at the time doesn't feel particularly good - it's hard. Doing 10 1,000m intervals at max effort does NOT feel good to me especially after #7. But when it's over I'm like a million bucks! You guys that do 100k in a day REALLY know what I'm talking about. If my goal during exercise is to feel good I'd leave the heart rate at 140bpm and call it a day. But that would not accomplish my ultimate fitness goals. I understand from crossfit that in order to train properly you must push your endurance and strength to its limit and little beyond and your body will respond by growing stronger for the next time. Believe it or not -this can actually be FUN! So I think we need to be careful how we interpret "feeling good". I'm not talking about chest pain and abnormal shortness of breath. I do know what those things are and they are NOT fun!
The LUNATICS exemplify committment to fitness. I'm really happy to be a member of this team.

On another note, no rowing today, in fact I’m heading for the couch after posting this, not long back from a 27 kilometre bush run in the hills, and whilst a little slower than I would have liked I’m generally happy. I went along the Great North Walk (on our doorstep) and this section doesn’t really lend itself to running as such, it is kind of like one big work-out on a step machine! Just worked out I did around 1,700 metres of ascent, and the same descent, all up it took around 5 hours... The Speight’s will be similar, but should be able to run more in that so hopefully will be a better time...
Good weekend to all, and thanks to Ron for posting the stats!!
Cheers, BBB

Ah, this took a while to percolate. I thought your "advancing statistic day" meant that you'd moved from number something to number something else on the Honor Board. Not! Best Belated Birthday, Baz!bg wrote:and happy birthday from me too.....DUCKMARX wrote:Happy Advancing Statistic Day BAZzyBAZzy wrote:. . .my ‘statistic’ advances by one tonight!![]()
Aww - so cute, Jodi! How does your granddaughter feel about her new sib?Jodi wrote:I head off on Tuesday to pick up our 3 year old granddaughter for a visit before our son and daugther-in-law bring the baby down a week later to be here for Christmas, so I don't know how much time I'll have to get some rowing in or check out the forum. Toddlers are so time consuming!

I know what you mean Ron, these two are our son's and he's the younger of our two children. The oldest will be 30 in February and is just starting to talk about starting a family in the next year or so. Boy things are sure different than when I was their age. By 30 I had a 10 year old and an 8 year old!I sure am jealous that you have such cute grandchildren. I'm hoping that rowing will help me live long enough to see grandchildrenOur son is 31 and the prospects right now look dim

As for the new baby brother, she generally does well with him. But isn't enjoying the aspect of having to "share" her old baby things with him. She keeps hiding things that she doesn't want him to have. She's been quite spoiled as an only child and wants constant attention. We'll be working on manners, no whining, and temper tantrums while she's here for her visit. She isn't a brat, but can be bratty at times. We're hoping to influence her to make better choices even at her young age.just27 wrote: Aww - so cute, Jodi! How does your granddaughter feel about her new sib?
