Well I've been sidelined temporarily. I started having major pains in my right side last Wednesday and ended up in the emergency room with what my doctor and the ER doctor thought was appendicitis. Fortunately it's not, but I"m still not out of the surgery woods yet. Let's just say "female problems" and leave it at that! LOL I have to see a surgeon tomorrow morning so we'll see what she says.

On a brighter note - I've lost 5 lbs since I started rowing!! Yahoo!!!!!!!! My energy and drive are definitely there and I can't wait to get back to it as soon as I'm better! In the meantime I'm just kind of hanging out and will do my very best not to gain those 5 lbs back!

Anne

Hey Anne!

I was getting worried and just thinking about emailing you to see if you were still hanging in there. So I'm glad to hear you are, but not so glad to hear about a possible bout with surgery! Just when you got a good start, too. Dang.

Well, hang in there! Hopefully it won't be anything that requires anything more than a laparoscopy if you have to have surgery at all.

Five pounds? Yay, way to go! And you know how much better you feel, so hang onto that for your motivation when you get well enough to start rowing again. Plus you'll have the rest of us Ducks to keep encouraging you along!

Keep us posted, Anne. Positive thoughts coming at ya!

--Jen

YAY, CAROLE MAC!!

Way to go, girl! To finish that race is something, but to take the record too?? That's the whipped cream on a mocha!

Tomorrow night, in your honor, I'll eat some pasta to celebrate. I love Italian food.

Were you standing as you typed your note for this forum?? Yeah, I'll bet you *did* have a sore butt--I know how mine feels after one hour, let alone EIGHT. Geesh, I'm impressed!!

Congrats, congrats!

--Jen

Woo Hoo!!!!
Bloody good job, Matey!!!!
And I thought a marathon was an accomplishment!! I think I can speak for all the Ducks in saying that we are very much in awe of your record!

I was quite happy to help the kiddies over there. As a matter of fact, my first trip to England was to deliver bone marrow to Manchester. Can't remember exactly where - not allowed to tell even if I knew!

Way to go!
The Buffle

Hi Ducks!

Well, it's looking less and less like I'll be needing surgery anytime soon which is good news! I have to see another doctor this week and we'll see what she has to say.

In the meantime, I rowed tonight for the first time in two weeks since I got sick. Only did 10 minutes but it was good enough to get me out of 2nd to last place - up a notch into 3rd to last place! It feels good to be moving a little, I'm just being careful not to aggravate things and end up back in the emergency room.

Thanks for the words of support - they are very appreciated!

Oh and Carole - I am SO awed by you! You are my new hero!!!

-Anne

Hi Gang,

As most of you know, my husband and I took learn to row classes this summer with the local rowing club. We then went on to row in the Novice program and are going to be competing in a couple of head races this fall. We both still spend a lot of time on the erg, but I haven't had much time to stay very active on the forums.

Our local rowing club is going to be starting there own C2 rowing club team to start logging their on water meters as well as to help motivate their members to keep erging during the off season.

As much as I love being on the ducks, as soon as the other club team gets started I think it is important for me to switch over to that team. The ducks have been an amazing inspiration to me, and making the decision to switch teams was an extremely difficult one.

I will truly miss being a duck and will continue to check in as often as I can on the forums.

I understand where you're coming from, so I wish you and your hubba the best. Sure will miss ya.

You'll still be able to pop in on the forums and keep us posted on how you're doing, though, so you won't be leaving us *completely*, right?

Keep cranking up those meters, Kathi! What's important is what those meters are doing for YOU, hey?

--Jen, the duck with training wheels

No! No! You can't go!!
What will the Ducks do without Ritz?

Okay - if ya gotta go, we wish you well. Don't forget to splash in now and again. Hopefully we will still keep in touch even though it's been a busy summer all around.

You really have been an inspiration to a lot of us Ducks. Thanks!

The Buffle

Hiya ducks quick paddle ..... did Enfield Irc yesterday ...was very disaapointed but perhaps I shouldn't have my sights set so high ... entered three races ... the first one 2k and bottled it after 1500metres and I was on pb pace .. just put the handle down and I don't know why ... boohoo...
2nd race was a 1k and I was determined to finish it no pb but I spose a comfortable row at 3.46 then did a 500metres again no pb but did 1.45.... bk to the drawing board now ..... after speaking to several peeps they reckon that the 100k will prob still be in my legs and that I need now to sharpen up .... the aborted 2k and the 1k I was only rating 25-26 oops .....

Carole a little disappointed but I will be back ....

Kathi:

Congratulations on your rowing & health accomplishments. The rowing forum is motivational, but on the water rowing is way more fun! Have a great time!

We've been neighbors in the rankings but I doubt I'll be able to keep up with you with all your training. Not that I won't try!

Margaret

After a week of frustration (not enough time to row, poison oak eruptions, my kids having multiple meltdowns, etc.), today was the day to take care of myself. So I climbed back on my rowing machine to accomplish something to be proud of. I rowed 2 new pbs, 500m and 60 minutes, and enough other meters over the day to add up to a half marathon, my monthly goal since there aren't many days left in September.

Don't think I can top my 60 minute pb anytime soon. I was really huffing and puffing for the last 10 minutes, but determined not to miss my goal pace after getting that far. I made it to 13km for the first time. On the 500m, my legs couldn't seem to pump harder, but that's easier to try again than another grueling 60 minutes. (Hey-where's the icon for panting?).

My kids weren't too impressed, so thought I'd brag here!

Margaret
