2011 Holiday Challenge - Earning the Concept2 Donation!

Post by Kona2 » November 3rd, 2011, 12:56 pm

Image Note to All Participants

From K2, the Luna-Tics Team - to all Concept2 Holiday Challenge Participants:

We have about three weeks before the Holiday Challenge starts. For many of us, this particular individual challenge was the first Concept2 challenge we participated in. You remember what it felt like to get those final meters in to make that 200,000 m goal. Pretty special stuff. Of all the Challenges that rowers and ski ergers participate in each year, the annual Holiday Challenge is one that serves to call those who've been absent from their machines back to them...because they've ALWAYS participated in the Holiday Challenge. And most of us still do want that pin!

Starting in 2008, Concept2 added a component that exemplifies the season and gives each of us an opportunity to make our meters count for something beyond the annual Holiday Challenge pin . Concept2 pledged up to $30,000 towards some specific charitable organizations, and you could pick where you wanted your $$$ for meters to go. That's still true today. This year they want to fund organizations that provide disaster relief for their home state of Vermont.

What's also true is that Concept2 has never been able to meet its goal of $30,000...because we haven't completed quite enough meters. We've come close, but we haven't crossed that line.

There are, at current count, 20,688 active Concept2 logbooks ringing up meters from ergs and ski ergs. If just 15,000 of us complete 100,000 m...Concept2 makes its goal. Given that only 5500 people participate in most of the Challenges, it might be a tough sell to get 15,000 people to go the distance.

Think about putting in some extra meters during this Challenge. You'll never work so hard for $2 or feel so good about it.

Great Post (and should be bumped from time to time)

I'm hoping to do 200,000 meters for this event. I made 153,00 for the last challenge so I should be able to kick it up a bit.

For every person who completes at least 100k during the challenge, Concept2 will donate $.02 for each kilometer (1000 meters) you accumulate to your choice of the following organizations:
■Vermont Disaster Relief Fund
■American Red Cross Disaster Relief (International)
■Unicef—Emergency Relief Programs

Once you get beyond 100k, we'll donate $.04 per kilometer (for kids and adaptive athletes, the $.04 rate will take effect at 50k). The usual prizes of pin and certificate will be awarded as well.

Our goal through this group effort is to raise $30,000 to support these causes, and every bit adds up! Since adding the donation component to the 2008 Holiday Challenge, together we've raised over $80,000 for many great causes!

Six days to the start - five if you're rowing in the southern hemisphere! The more meters you row, the more $$$ Concept2 donates for Vermont.

The donation "thermometer" is in place.... and you can't write a check or swipe the card...nooooo...it's all about the ERG...ski or row....

Thought I'd post this here from the "Individual Challenge" thread. This area seems to have a lot more action.

Whether you're considering 50K, 100K or 200K....it helps to make a plan of attack! Make a pact with yourself (and your family) that you can make time to row at least 25 days of the 31 ... and you'll be pretty successful. If you can stay ahead in the meter game, you'll be happier (and you'll make it through those last few meters with a profound sense of accomplishment!).

Great post!!! Thanks for doing the math. It really helps.

Woohoo ! We've got a total of approximately 400 people on the Honor Boards....and we still have 21 or 22 days to row through the Challenge !

Concept2 rowers have earned FOUR percent of the total donation goal ! Keep going ... keep going....
