Hi gang - A friend (rowing partner) noticed early this week that I was within spitting distance of 2MM for the ranking year (ends Saturday). So without prior planning, I decided to put in a week of almost 100,000 meters in order to claim 2MM for the year - no T shirt, no socks, no bloody certificate, bragging rights only.
Am I crazy or what? Anyway, I'm definitely feeling the stress....and the need for calories (at least there's that! I can eat all I want). But I think I'm going to do it. I need only another 22,096 before Saturday at midnight. Wish me luck.

-Linda/Harly

Hmmm - I'm not the only observant one out there! I've been watching those meters pile up, Harly! I was wondering if you would make a push for the big 2. I'm sure you'll do it now that you have your mind made up! You seem to like a challenge. You go girl!!! The Ducks are with you!

As for me - we're still waiting to get on the water this week. The wind has put a stop to turning the novices loose on the choppy water. We will try again tonight, even if it's raining.

Hey - by the way... Where's my million meter shirt???? C2 must be swamped with all the requests!

Have a great weekend everybody! I can't wait to see where we end up for the year.
GO DUCKS!!!
Go, Harly!! Less than 11 K left to go! I was thinking/ hoping I was done for the 2005 season, but if you can go for 2 million, I guess I can manage to eke out another 8 or 10K tomorrow in your honor. (Dawn says to herself, "Great, now I've made a public declaration, now I have to follow through.")

Congratulations to the Bufflehead, Kay Fellows, and Judy Geer (do you have to sign your own certificate? ) for doing well over a million meters this season. It looks like everyone's really putting in the meters, even if they just got started. And then there's La Flaca, with her National achievements! I'm really proud to be part of such a fantastic team.

Wow Harly! You're gonna make it for sure! What's a little 11K to a Duck??

Hey Dawnald - I like your idea! I will row my 15K in honor of Harly also! Hmmmm - I'm seeing a challenge for next year already. Just how far can I push myself?

Well, it's time for me to get ready to hit the water! We finally got out last night. I did it! I actually feathered. As a duck, that should come naturally shouldn't it? If you would have told me last year at this time that I would be taking up a new sport at age 55, I would have thought you were insane. Who knew?? It's all your fault, Harly. You planted the idea, and now here I am heading out this rainy morning to join the other nuts like me!

A great big THANK YOU to all the folks at Concept2!! I have already been informed that the Million Meter T-shirt will be here soon. What a great organization you have. You really do put customer service first!

Go Ducks!!
The Buffle

Congratulations, Harly!! See you made the 2mm mark for the year. Sure brought the Ducks in a Row dangerously close to being 23rd in ranking.

Maybe belonging to Ducks in a Row 52 weeks instead of 2 weeks, I will be a bigger contributor in 2005-2006 year.

Ellen

Hello all! Back after a long weekend visiting a friend and helping her pack up her house, have a yard sale, and clean my old apt and turn it over to the landlord! Boy am I tired! Got up and did my first row of the year this morning though! Is everyone else still paddling along? I know that a few of you had substantial efforts at the end of the rowing year! How's the recovery going?

I see the Ducks are off to a good start. Tried to do my best by even going to the gym on Sunday (Day 1 of the new rowing year) and rowing.

Today I was headed for 6500m in 2600 and 1300 meter rows while at the gym but my back gave out after one 2600 and two 1300 rows. That is all my back will take for the day. Am having a problem with my lumbar vertebraes due to problems with abdominal muscles being separated. I am afraid surgery is in my near future but I am carefully rowing what I can trying to protect lower back and ventral hernia in the meantime. Hopefully I will get fixed shortly and be on the mend and get to row even more.

Ellen

Waves at all the other ducks.

I’m getting back into rowing on a regular basis. I’m aiming for 2-3 x a week and hopefully will work up to rowing every other day. Will add in the weight lifting at that point.

Mowing the lawn is already a 1 x week chore

LindaM how did the big push to 2MM go?
Landlocked - I got to 2MM for 2005 season. But 2006 is a whole new year, and there are other Ducks (not to mention Ancient Mariners and other teams' members) way out ahead of me already. VT is just beginning to experience warmer temperatures and sunshine and I am eager to be running and cycling outside. So I expect to be "back some in the pack" for the next few months as far as my meters go. I'm counting on others in too hot regions to keep the Ducks afloat until fall! - Harly/LindaM

Today I got scheduled for ventral surgery repair May 23rd. Hope to get in at least 100k on my log by that date... that is if the body holds out. Don't know how long I will be out of commission but maybe when I get my stomach muscles fixed and strong once again, I will be able to row longer and faster. Definitely limited by lack of working abdominal muscles at the present time. Right now having to do splits when rowing at the gym to not stress out abdomen and lower back muscles.

Looks like the Ducks are off to a good start.

Ellen
