My husband just smiles encouragingly and says that I'm "weird". But I that know he's proud of me, especially since he bought the rowing machine for me the year that I asked for a treadmill for Christmas. :)
Congratulations on the million! Wear your pin proudly!

Familiar story. My wife said she was interested in getting a treadmill. I told her I wouldn't be using it, looked at treadmills for a while and since my wife was showing no interest in them, stopped looking after about a week. A month later I looked at a rowing machine and ended up buying one. (It is now a regular argument in that I bought the rowing machine and didn't buy a treadmill so she's not interested in trying to row since I wasn't interested in a treadmill)

Hooboy! The number gnomes were busy yesterday! :D

Ergs vs treadmills vs bikes on trainers....they're all good! Biking and erging don't give the same weight-bearing exercise experience as walking or running, so wintertime will find me putting in at least 30 minutes a day on the treadmill 4 or 5 times a week if the weather is not so good for walking the K9s. And, of course, THEY always think the weather is good enough for walking...

Image 16 days pre-swooooooosh

Not that we're not swoooooshing right now, but Holiday Challenge swooshing is different.... No matter what your Challenge goal might be, might as well plan for a hiccup to occur somewhere during the 31 days (that's why I like the 25 day schedule...gives you some leeway for those "you're kidding" moments). Yes, you could be working on your own calorie offset credits during this seasonal Challenge. Unlike the carbon offset credits that are being traded on the open market these days, you have to produce your own credits...and some for your reindeer, too.

Hooboy! (one of my favorite exclamations...ever) There was a run on the number "3" yesterday! We had 30 percent participation, Ethan rowed a 333, Tony rowed a 3333 (woot!) and I just had to take the opportunity to stop the dial for the day at 333,333 for the season. That's like a logarithmic progression (0,1,2)...almost......Cool number geek stuff. Meanwhile, we start our first FOUR million meter watch countdown of the rowing season...

Keep your eyes to the skies tonight....that asteroid that's the size of an aircraft carrier is going to pass pretty close to our rowing pathway.

Season meters as of 192/365 = 68,599,934 m

Total meters on the day = 353,551 m

That's funny, and as you said, very similar to our situation. My husband won't go near the rowing machine. He thinks there's no substitute for running (he's a marathoner, and even ran an ultra marathon). I keep insisting he'll see better results in his running if he used the rowing machine as cross-training, but no go.
Oh well, I don't mind really because I love my rowing machine and it's always available, rain or shine. :-)
Thanks for the congrats.

Congrats from my side too!
I heard that the first million is the hardest one. Hope this is true.

By the way: I prefer golf as a cross training. Maybe it does not improve my fitness that much, but it's a lot of fun! :-D

Well all that Halloween candy ought to be about gone by now....just in time for a whole new set of holidays!

Image ImageImage days and counting...

Really like the design of this year's Holiday Challenge...can't wait to be able to order that sweatshirt. Because while SOME people might be enjoying some warmer weather, it's a bit brisk over here in the Rocky Mountains (although there is promise of a few 60 degree days later this week). Definitely GREAT rowing weather! Woot !

And, happily, I can report that all the stitches are out - and I'm getting set for a nice 10K row to put my lifetime meters at 8,888,888 m. By now, most know that I almost always try to "hit" any series of repeater numbers that happens to come my way. This time - all those 8s have a little bit more meaning. There are many on the team who have had some very hard losses this year. Small tokens of support say a lot without words.

Great rowing Ron! Glad to have Rosi , Samuel, and Cathie back on board :D
Trying for a 36 K day as a tribute to the Edmund Fitzgerald loss on 11/10/1975. Though I was only 2 at the time, Dad has played that song for us about 200K times on his guitar. Actually about 14 years ago we went to a Nursing home to entertain and while he was singing the 20 verses or so, most of the residents fell asleep. Me and Tamster could not stop laughing, Dad was being so serious and never noticed.
In 2002 we visited the Great Lakes Shipwreck museum, I highly recommend it if you ever visit Michigan. And if you have to listen to the song, please let it be Gordon Lightfoot's version, not Dads :P
