Or for the metrically challenged like me--1256.11 miles since March 5. That doesn't count the hundred or so I did in the dory on the Hudson .

OK, Off the wall question...
Has anyone on the team done one of the Tough Mudder events?
If so, I would be interested in hearing your thoughts/feelings about how it was & perhaps some tips for training.
TIA.

Only Ivey asks on-the-wall questions... Tough Mudder is good fodder for discussion... John S? Lisa? Jamie? (I think John S added some of those cross-country & tough trails to his regular running this season.)theOtherOne wrote:OK, Off the wall question...

Re: TimbukTOO Team Room
I have not done a Tough Mudder or Warrior Run but my pals have and loved it!! I recommend trail running any terrain similar to the race course. Check out John S's team page pic -- you can tell he's done something interesting in this area!! Maybe check out runnersworld.com for some training articles or tips in their forums. They're a great site for that. When and where is the event??
Hey, we made it up to Observation Point today!! My dogs are barking. Strangely the descent is worse than the ascent. Knees are sore but I haven't even been winded on the "strenuous" hikes here. Yay!!

I'm just one wikipedia search away from being an expert in anything. I assume this has something to do with Spider Man.Izzzmeister wrote:Only Ivey asks on-the-wall questions... Re: TimbukTOO Team Room
Thanks for the idea about runnersworld.com. I haven't run since I had to do the mile in high school, twenty odd years ago, and was perfectly content with running not being in my life. However that needs to change since I was badgered into joining my brother-in-law's team for the TM. We signed up to do the one in Ohio (Mich/Ohio on their map) on April 16th, 2012. Needless to say, this is forcing me to change my exercise routine. So instead of plopping my butt on the erg, as per my usual, I hopped on the treadmill this morning and did a 5k 'jog'. I figured that I would be sore, but so far, I am not feeling too bad. Though, I think the knees might lodge more than their usual protest when I start to row tomorrow.
If I was smart, I would have started training earlier, so I could start to run outside, however, I'm not, so most of my base miles will have to be inside as the weather seems to have finally remembered that it is almost November.
Should be an interesting few months.
~j
ps: back in the day, the downhills were always more killer on my knees than the ascent.

Re: TimbukTOO Team Room
Oh yeah, you folks have weather in the winter, don't ya? I keep forgetting... It's just getting into good trail weather now in SoCal, though trails close when we get rain...
Edit to add: this looks interesting re training... http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthrea ... 041&page=1. Touches on what weight training to do. Looks like you truly are in for some FUN!!!

Re: TimbukTOO Team Room
I'm not familiar with these events here in the states. The one similar insane event I have looked into is the "Tough Guy" run held in the UK. Their main website keeps freezing my browser so here is a stable link that gives a good idea of what is involved. http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/eticket/ ... ughguy2007 Just seeing those people in the cold makes me shiver....Has anyone on the team done one of the Tough Mudder events?
Doing some more research I found this Tough Mudder event in Dallas... http://toughmudder.com/events/texas-dal ... -map-2012/ I want to do it!!!!

Another great link about TM training.
Thank you so much....but now I am beginning to see that my worst 'fears', might be realized...more weights, more running, less erg.

Not much help for this challenge. Developed some hip pain that I'm trying to work through.
