Danno, this is awesome!! Welcome back!Toothdoc wrote:Well The 8 week eval is over and I got the all clear to resume normal activity. With the admonition to us common sense when try an activity I haven't tried for several months. And to not try and bench press 400 lbs right away.
So it looks like I can row pretty much uninhibited for the last two days of the Challenge.
Thanks for the prayers and good thoughts over the past 2.5 months.

Well, it happened again. I had another bout of atrial fibrillation early this week and the doctor put me back on the beta blockers. I hate medication, but I did what he said to do. Beta blockers act like a governor on your heart. Whereas I was routinely pushing 180 beats per minute before, now I can't get much more than 150 bpm. I feel lethargic and fatigued much of the time. Then, to top it off, I got a spasm in my lower back making it super painful to do anything - walk, sit, or stand, much less to row. All this in the last week of the fall team challenge. But...today (last day of the frc) I got up and said, "enough of this". I took two allieve and managed a personal best on the half-marathon. Maybe I can do a little more later today after a rest.
You all are such a great inspiration. Your rowing during this FTC has been absolutely fantastic. I can't believe all the records that have been broken and new records that have been set. The bar has been definately raised. I have no clue how we'll top it next year - but I believe we can and we will.
I am so thankful for the priviledge to be a part of this team.

We crossed the bridge to sappy-land awhile ago. Sappy is all you have on a virtual team to hold each other up as you stumble together towards the finish line. I pushed a little too hard yesterday. I'm not sure what I have left either. Barring some unforeseen chicanery, we should end up in the top 7. This will go down as one of the bigger accomplishments of my life.macbruce1 wrote:Thanks Brett,BigBrett58 wrote:Congrats Ron on 3 million!
I probably wouldn't have gotten to this point without your inspiration. I will TRY to go out strong with you, but man my legs are really looking forward to a day off tommorow
And my first ever "Kiba Kupcake"
Not to get all sappy, but it has been an honor and priviledge to be with this team through this challenge and every other day What a great team and a great group of people I never really liked the song but this team is definitely the "Wind beneath my wings"
Ron
Kiba, I'll guess 70k.
Re: LUNA-TICS TEAM ROOM: Year-round "Looney" fun.
Hooyah! We're down to the last day of the Challenge! 25 million is on the horizon! While there may be pirate flags flying, what a splendid challenge this is! My guess for Kiba meters is 111,111 for her 22 hr row. It's all amazing.
And rats! I hope those who fell off the team roster find their way back. We are all a stronger team together than we are apart. The finish line is in sight - and everyone who has ever been on a team knows that the ultimate team experience isn't the "win' - it's crossing the finish line together.
Thanks to all who have rowed in this challenge!! The stories have been great - and there are more to be told. As we all know sometimes too well, our bodies can sometimes try to limit us - but the spirit is what finds a way! Rock on, Lunies! And thanks, Ron - I am enjoying a good break from number crunching. Biking starts tomorrow.

Good to hear you're having a good time K2. And Ross, please be careful and don't overdo it. I'm no expert, but going on medication just so you can row is a recipe for disaster.
I put in 15k this morning since we need a little more to get to the 25M for the challenge. Less than 94k to go, and there's still almost half a day left (for those in the US) so I don't think it's an insurmountable goal. Of course, without the FTC I still would've put in at least half of that, but that's besides the point .
For me, the challenge isn't over yet. 9 More days to go in the "Biggest Loser" challenge we have going on at work. While I'm not the front runner in weigh loss, and had already lost 9 lbs before the challenge started, I'm pretty close percentage wise in weight loss. So one more week of challenge style rowing for me to go while attempting to limit my pre-Halloween candy intake (which is hard given how much Halloween candy we have in the house at the moment, as we're expecting another 150ish kids to stop by this year if the weather is nice).
Just now after my shower the scale was at 192.4 lbs. I need to drop at least one more lbs in the next 9 days to stand a (slim) chance. I should just start eating better, but don't want to. I'm weird like that.

Go the Lunies, the challenge must be in its finals throes by now. Great work by all. I've given myself the day-off from rowing, a bit water-logged from yesterday's (upside down) kayaking
There have been so many outstanding efforts in the chaalenge, and I dare not list anyone specifically for fear of missing someone, but collectively - well done all!!
Cheers, BBB

Okay, so I think my final number is 62195, got in a marathon plus 20K, I think that makes Dave H the winner of the coveted cupcake!
A note to Brett and Ron (and a couple of others who are so close to 1MM, you guys are crazy! Getting a million metres in a month long challenge is one of my goals that has thus far eluded me. So I know from trying, repeatedly, that it must be incredibly hard to pull such big numbers so consistently. So a huge congrats to you guys!
To everyone, just looking through the numbers and everyone has done really awesome, so congrats to everyone who participated!

Thanks Kiba... and a great effort for one day when you haven't been hitting the erg so much!
Re: LUNA-TICS TEAM ROOM: Year-round "Looney" fun.
So my wife and I snuck down to the Penrith Whitewater Stadium around lunchtime today to meet and take a few photos of BBBazz (our secret weapon to steal the Speight's Coast to Coast trophy - as the All Blacks are currently "stealing" the Rugby world cup from us... ). Click on thumbnails to see Bazz in action:
Re: LUNA-TICS TEAM ROOM: Year-round "Looney" fun.
And a couple more, including three quarters of the Team Oz chapter of the Luna-tics (we will have to get Angelo along to the next "shoot"!!):
Please note that there was no inverted Bazz to be seen while I was there - he did a sterling job to keep a very unstable watercraft right-side-up!
It was great to finally catch up with Baz, Thomo, Mrs Baz - and extended family and friends!
Cheers,
Dave

Well we'll get the important stuff taken care of first, Congratulations BG, Dave T and Ron well done!
Now for all who have been complaining of sore butts lately here's what I use. Nothing magic a 9"x14"x4" piece of memory foam. Can be had at any upholstery shop for a few dollars. Haven't had a sore butt in over a year. Only problem is when you first get it and get on you feel a little wobblely but that goes away in a few seconds. 14" is a little wider than the seat but then my bum is a little wider than the seat.
Well, did my first unsupervised row Fri. 5K. It felt really good during. However, about 4 AM I wokeup and every muscle in my body was screaming at me "You freaking idiot!". So I backed it way down yesterday and rowed just to work out the soreness. Gosh I thought all that walking would take care of me, different muscles I guess, DUH!
Later, oh Great Challenge by all you guys, K2 keep having fun and Ron good job!
