Congratulations to the milestones (Tammy & Robyn) over the past 24 hours, great rowing all, especially in the challenge as the finish lines starts to loom on the horizon...
I thought I would get another row in after the white water kayak session yesterday, didn't happen and I ended up flat out on the couch!. But got another short row in this morning.
I must say I enjoyed it immensley and we are back out there today... Needless to say I ended upside down many times (read lots!). There is a big difference kayaking my racing ski which is 6.5 metres long (22 feet) and has a rudder, compared to a little Mystic which is about two inches long (okay slightly bigger) and no rudder.
Cheers, BBB

I hope you get feeling better Ron, so we can finish strong together. If you didn't set the tone on day 1, I wouldn't be near the top with you. It's always easier when you have a running partner. I notice there are quite a few groups of Lunatics in the rankings. I think we're all stronger together than we would be apart.macbruce1 wrote:Congratulations to both Robyn and Tammy I've been out of the loop the since Wed. night. I concur. Without you all I wouldn't be in the top 10%, or over 200km for the challenge. I expected to go somewhere between 120km and 200km tops.BigBrett58 wrote:I think we're all stronger together than we would be apart.
But in the meantime I see milestones all over the place, more than I can congratulate people on (but needless to say, they're all great milestones and it's great to see them all).
Wim (attempting to get back into rowing shape).

Re: LUNA-TICS TEAM ROOM: Year-round "Looney" fun.
I gave everything I had today. Tomorrow, I will surely pay for it. Actually, I'll probably start paying for it through a painful night of restless sleep. There's a pretty good chance, I'll never do it again. Today, I rowed a 100k over 6 sessions starting at 8 am and finishing around 10:45 pm. My rear end wants to punch me in the face. My hands feel like I played tug of war with a barb wire fence. I have at least a little pain in every muscle that plays some part in the rowing motion. None of that matters though. I had a plan of how I was going to do it and I stuck to it. I tried not to focus on how realistic the goal was and just kept moving in a forward direction.
Add this milestone to the many we've had over the past several weeks. We've had many opportunities to share in the accomplishments on others. Let's keep the momentum going and continue to encourage each other to finish strong.

Wowzer, Wowzer, Wowzer, Brett...Go Big or go home! What is that? A Galaxy Award, or something, K2? Great job on sticking to your plan - good thing you didn't ask anyone if it was reasonable or not, right?

Re: LUNA-TICS TEAM ROOM: Year-round "Looney" fun.
After I rowed 70k a couple weeks ago, Kona said something about how she thought I'd row 100k at some point. She planted the idea in my head. In my mind, she implied that it wasn't unreasonable that I might be able to do it. Honestly, I expected to come up short. My goal became seeing how long I could stay on pace. The last 16.67k was actually the easiest. With any big challenge in life, the best thing you can do is come up with a plan, adjust as you go, and try to put yourself in a position to succeed. The hardest part is continuing to put one foot in front of the other when you have those doubts about whether it's all worth it when the finish line is still out of sight.Kristine Strasburger wrote:BigBrett58 wrote:I gave everything I had today. Re: LUNA-TICS TEAM ROOM: Year-round "Looney" fun.
On September 1, 2010, I received my Concept2 Model D. I'd never rowed before. The reason I bought a rowing machine instead of a treadmill or exercise bike was because the weight limit of the rowing machine was 500 lbs while the weight limit of non-commercial other exercise equipment tended to be between 275 and 300 lbs. I weighed 346 lbs at the time. The very first time I rowed, I went a total of 10 minutes, but took a break to stretch after 5 minutes. I was sore the next day. This morning, I weighed 269.4 lbs which is the lowest I've weighed in over 9 years. I'm not posting this so that everyone will tell me how great I am. While I appreciate the encouragement, I don't like a lot of attention. I actually get a little embarrassed. My true reason for sharing this is to add another story among the many of what can be accomplished over a period of time using this particular piece of exercise equipment and being part of a supportive group. I know some people are new to rowing and want to know what's possible. I'm not exceptional. Over the course of the past year, I didn't lose 1.32 lbs every week. Some weeks I lost 5 lbs and others I gained 3 lbs. I rowed more yesterday than I did between December 2010 and March 2011. I'm not some model of self-discipline. Sometimes I succeeded, and other times I failed miserably. During the past year, my wife lost a pregnancy and became pregnant again. Sometimes my job was stressful; sometimes it was boring. Sometimes I went to Subway; sometimes I went to the Chinese buffet. When you have long term goals, your daily battles may be wins or losses. You have to have a short memory about the losses. You can't do anything about yesterday or last week. You can't diet for a year today. You only have control over what you're doing at this moment. Life is a series of individual decisions. You only have to make one at a time.

Re: LUNA-TICS TEAM ROOM: Year-round "Looney" fun.
Okay, so I just spent about half an hour trying to figure out why my rowing machine total and and my log book total weren't adding up, I went through ever single work out and checked everything over and over, and uploaded all the workouts I hadn't uploaded, and it was still off by 900 metres. Anyways, back in June for the summer solstice row I'd accidentally transposed the one and the zero when I'd entered it in, which is all sad because now I know my row didn't count.
