Had to force myself to get on the rower this A.M., but I'm going to a pig roast today (fund raiser for a school I teach at a couple times a year-Peter's Valley Craft Center)-need the calorie burn. Let's see-what kind of party food does 800 or so calories burned let me eat?? And if I plan to row a while when I get home, I get extra cake
Does forging my own chain count towards my meter tally????

Sorry I missed the last 2 days. Thursday night was my Men's Group and I got out later than I hoped and just came home for an early rest UNTIL I saw that I cheated too much and my sugars were higher than I would have liked. Blew the dust off the stationary bike and did 20-25 minutes with some upper body light dumbell work at the same time. (Wish I had an erg at home) Sugars were great in the morning. Still learning!!! Great to be off the meds BUT EXERCISE IS NOW MY MEDS AND I STILL NEED MY MEDS EVERYDAY!!! Funny how getting off of meds suddenly makes you think you're cured or something. I AM A DIABETIC. I AM A DIABETIC. I AM A DIABETIC. And guess I always will be. My sweet tooth still wants to tell me otherwise.

Also learned that I like the workout I get on my stationary bike. (Always did) Too many people think it's only a lower body exercise. Try doing a 100 alternate curls with just 5 lb dumbells while riding at a good pace or lifting them like you were doing jumping jacks for 50 times while pedaling. (I do several other things too for a 25 minute workout) It felt good to mix it up.

Lost a couple more lbs too. Don't have anymore to lose. After this challenge I must change things up a bit to put some weight back on. I feel like I am eating a lot yet I have to watch "portion" size for my diabetes. (And yes I am eating between meals) I KNOW that I have to exercise everyday as my "meds". Hoping that some weight traing every other day will put some weight back on AND be enough to control my diabetes on the days I don't do cardio.

This has been a great challenge for me and I hope I have added to this experience to others as much as this experience has done for me.

I am afraid that my rowing streak will come to an end today. A previous owner of my home wrapped the root ball of a tree in wire mesh, planted it in my yard, let it grow for a decade, and then cut it down. I get the pleasure of digging it up. So far i have dug up a few golf balls, a *** DELETE - SPAM *** knife, and a star wars action figure as well. Idiots...

Mark, you bet forging your own chain counts! There's some calorie burn there for sure... :D

Bob, my husband has been losing weight that he doesn't need to (he was recently diagnosed with ulcerative colitis -- not great but he has been suffering for a bit and at least now we know what's wrong)... we have upped his calories and nutrition by adding in some Ensures (among other things). Not sure if that option is available to you as a diabetic, but there is a version of them that is intended for weight gain. (He's doing better now with some meds, and me NOT feeding him like I used to -- high fiber, lots of crisp veggies and salads and fruits are exactly the opposite of what he needs to heal. So now I have MY food and then he has his, and I'm spending twice the time in the *** DELETE - SPAM *** as I used to... )

Andy, maybe that Star Wars action figure is worth some bucks!!

My "rest" day turned into a 5-mile hike, including "Dreaded Hill". Yes, that's actually it's name. :P

Holy Canoli is right-once again Heather leaves me choking on the dust as she blows by-38,000. As the Beastie Boys say- No Sleep Till Brooklyn. Wait a minute-dust,rowing?? Need another analogy.

Hi teammates! I just have to give Lisa and Izz some props for all the number crunching and statistics posting that you do! You guys ROCK!! And the humor...so clever! It doesn't go unnoticed. Thank you!!!!

Looks like I'm on track to make my challenge goal. Woo hoo! Many teammates have already surpassed their goals- way to row!!! With the hubby out of town this week, I am solely in charge of, well, everything, so finding time to row will be challenging. But hey, that's why it's called the Fall CHALLENGE, right? And there's nothing wrong with rowing at midnight, right? As long as my rower doesn't wake the kids.

Finish hard! Less than one week left! Now is the time to take it to the next level. Empty the tanks. ROCK ON!

Have a great week, everyone!
Cindy

12 of 54 members (22%) logged 165,213 total meters Sunday! Yes, it WAS a beautiful day, but…

Posted Meters:
Andrew A - 7,140
Jamie B - 12,187
Kathy B - 6,147
Mark E - 21,097 HM!

Gary G - 15,023

Bob G - 5,000
Bruce H - 32,508
Jerry H - 27,000

Kevin K - 10,000
Pat M - 10,000
Kim N - 10,000
Joseph W - 9,111

TimbukTWOians, it‘s time for a sprint to the finish! (The last 2 challenges, a couple of teams put up mega-meters the last few days to move ahead of us. Don’t want to experience that again…)
Here are the personal milestones we reached today: Bruce H hit 400K, Mark E - 300K, and Jamie B & Kevin K reached 150K! That gives us 1 with 600K, 3 with 400K, 5 with 300K+, 10 with 200K+, 27 of 54 members (50%!) with 100K or more!
Glad to see us back up to 9th Place in the team standings - you can go up on deck for 5 minutes today, but the chains stay!

Challenge Goals - Day 25 of 31 (80.6%):
Rusty A - 204,201 of 100,000 (204.2%)

Kevin K - 154,032 of 100,000 (154.0%)
Lisa H - 125,029 of 100,000 (125.0%)
Mike E - 203,008 of 200,000 (101.5%)

Chris H - 164,000 of 180,000 (91.1%)
Andy I - 177,416 of 200,000 (88.7%)
Kim N - 87,588 of 100,000 (87.6%)

Jamie B - 157,796 of 200,000 (78.9%)
Cindy R - 78,088 of 100,000 (78.1%)

Don't worry, Mark - I'll have you home in time for dinner!

(Funny, I've never used a pig roast as an explanation for anything, and don't think I ever will!)

I got the stump out, spread two cubic yards of mulch, and just generally got the yard looking good before guests arrived for a dinner party. Thanks to all this rowing during the FTC, my 6 hours of swinging an axe and shoveling were a breeze. No weekend soreness to slow me down or otherwise cramp an attempt to eat my weight in leftover steaks and cupcakes. The extra calories paid off today. My daily row turned into a half marathon and more! It was a personal best distance for me.

I have developed a theory about how to avoid Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness (DOMS).
2 beers X # of hours exercise = # of beers required to avoid DOMS

An alternative calculation:
3 ounces of beef X # of hours of exercise = ounces of beef required to avoid DOMS

I suggest you use both methods to be doubly safe.

I am still working on a cupcake calculation, but it requires further research.
