Kim,
I have been using gloves- purchased from:

www.newgrip.com

for the past year +-- and I have no complaints at all. My hands are as smooth as a baby's bottom.

I had a glove's hand pad tear within the first month or 2 and they gladly and quickly mailed me a replacement
which speaks well for their customer service, too.

If you are having blister or callous issues, check out their website.

I have no relationship of any kind with this company, am just a satisfied customer.

Thanks Gary! I saw those, I just might have to order myself a pair.

Happy Rowing all!

I have the newgrips too. They do a good job preventing blisters and do make it a little easier on the hands and arms in terms of gripping the handle, but I still get annoyed by sweat making things slippery.

Also, make sure you don't maintain a death-grip on the handle. I was told to hold it lightly using the fingers more as hooks, not using the thumb much. On the recovery part of the stroke I tend to hold the handle with just a couple of fingers both to keep my hands relaxed and to help dissipate the moisture.

Izz sent me an E mail asking what's up Doc? Well the Company I worked for no longer exists and I have been goofing off all summer. My stroke has subsided with more felt aches and pains in my left side, complicating efforts to row, when I do attempt to row I look like the hunch back of Notre dame for about three day's afterward. I refuse to take Bacoflen as an agent to lessen the spasticity so when this 60 year old trods in to a Company applying for work the disability is hopefully not so obvious.

I miss you all and realize that this setback is just another measure of one's tenacity and will to survive.I cannot predict nor can any doctor my recovery...I have already gone beyond their expectations....I am replacing the rowing with about an hour of spinning, 30 minutes of tread mill, and 45 minutes of bowflex and dumbells daily. Two days ago I tried 2k on the rower.......I can barely straighten up yet today.

My look for work fortunately uses more mind than mass and hopefully someone will find need for this past Material Manager, and that I can feel again in heart and body and again rejoin you .

Dennis, I have been wondering about you.... I'm sorry to hear about your setbacks, but glad you are still active even if not rowing. You continue to be an inspiration!! Best wishes in your job search and for continued health improvements!

An hour of spinning and yet can't row for 2k? That seems odd. You must be in great shape with the workout you are doing though. It's all about being healthy and staying fit. Hope you can enjoy your rower again someday!

and the gloves are also good for shadowboxing the apocalypse.
Happy New Year.

One of my favorite malapropisms is in the expression: " to those of the Hebrew Faith".

Hebrew of course, is a language, not a faith.

I have another day of work ahead of me, am just rambling here- i apologize, and am heading off now for another round of shadowboxing-- and unfortunately, no head protection is provided..

Had a tough time rowing past few days-actually took a day off. Been doing a difficult installation of a nice hand forged railing 51 feet long. Hard part was drilling 16 holes in granite 2 inches in diameter 4 inches deep. Really beat up the old hands and arms. But, I'll just chain myself to the rower to make up for it-it'll seem like a vacation after the past few days

It better be a sweet, custom-designed, hand-made, decorative iron chain! Sounds like a heck of a job!

I took a run today -- first one in a week, and my body was downright indignant at having to carry its own weight around. :) I need a rest day tomorrow, and will maybe run Sunday too. My problem right now is my feet -- moderate but increasing joint pain in my left forefoot. I thought giving it a week off by rowing would help, but it still seems to take some stress during the drive. :(

Also slow on the challenge front, with 18 of 54 TimBukTWOians (33%) logging 213,611 total meters. We have dropped to 10th place, to a team of 500 who average a mere 13k per rower, which seems pretty wussy to me for a military facility. (Their whole team looks fishy... Most of them don't have ages, and one guy I clicked on has an age of 111! Very odd. But I digress....)

Some really strong rowing Team, let's keep it going into the last few days of this challenge!
