Fall Team Challenge: Thru Day 21 of 31

Post by Kona2 » October 6th, 2011, 10:10 am

ImageImage

Let the countdown to the Fall Challenge finish line begin.........Image days remain to make your mark in this challenge...

Total Luna-Tics Challenge Team Meters = 17,580,257 m

Starting to see a surge in the numbers of rowers vying for one of the coveted top ten individual rankings in this challenge. The last two weeks of any team challenge (and for some reason this is particularly true of the Fall Challenge) is just brutal. Gotta have some high octane "juice" in your tank (as Ron would say) to go for the strong finish. There's a full moon on 11 October....soak up those lunar rays!!

Top Ten Percent Goalers: The price of admission is 162,500 m at this moment....

Thanks to all who row as part of the Luna-Tics Challenge Team ... we couldn't be here without you. Here's a link to all the individual contributions being made:

Just kind of curious.
Now I'm curious. Are you looking for increased hand comfort while rowing, use of different muscles with a different kind of handle or bar or ?

Good to see you back on the erg after your tough week.
Kind of all of the above. I could of sworn i've seen handle where you could rotate your wrists freely while pulling. so you could do the catch with the standard palms down and while you pull back, you could rotate your wrists so the palms face each other.

Plus i don't want to have any wrist problems when i get older. Its easy to get sloppy and pronate my wrists

Good luck to all the lunatics as we head into the final weekend of the challenge. :)

Sydney looks like having mixed weather over the weekend, and I will be doing some white water kayaking out at the Penrith Olympic centre on both days to help prepare for the Speight’s, should be fun given I’m a flat-water racer usually.

And just might be worth highlighting that during these challenges many have elevated their usual physical activity to levels that might not be the ‘norm’ and this tends to run the immune system down. Bit like working hard and then catching a cold when you go on holidays and relax (I’m sure we’ve all been there!). So get some additional vitamin C and a good multi-vitamin into the body over the next few days...

Found this great video on the Speight’s...geez tough way to get a free beer...(couldn’t work out how to embed youtube – perhaps we can’t?)

That's intense! Loved the music. No swimming component? Is that guy really filling up his water bottle from the stream (around 3:30, I think) that they're all bounding through? Will there be a cam broadcast while you compete?

I did like the music, took my mind off the punishment they were getting (laughs nervously  )...

They actually say to take a cup on the run and drink from the river; it is an alpine stream so should be fine, but you still need to carry water and perhaps I could wear a helmet cam? And there is no planned swimming, but plenty of opportunity will be afforded to me on the kayak leg (oops there’s that nervous laugh again! )

The video was the one day event by the looks of it...

Have a good one, Baz

Good luck capt K in your next marathon!

Impressive! No wonder you put in the amount of meters you do ;). Good luck with the training! Would love to see the video...
We are planning to go back to NZ one day after our cruise visit a couple of years back, but unlikely to get this in the plan  .
