Thank y'all for the 2MM atta-girls. Definitely motivational!

Jim, yes, I am abashed to admit that I use "totally" and "awesome" ... in the Cali-talk way.
(Not so, dude or dewd, unless I'm just being silly!)
Congratulations!
This motivated me and, after I finally managed to pass 4MM (lifetime, not season ;)), I rowed another 11km :).

Happy rowing!

Andrea
Congratulations to both yourself Andrea and Minnie! Great efforts in both cases!

Thanks Dave!

I am far behind Minnie, but without the inspiration and encouragement of y'all I would be even farther...
Missed to acknowledge a lot of milestone these days when I could not get on the erg or Forum...

Truly you are all inspiring and motivating me! Thanks!

Happy rowing!

On the issue of upgrading handles, posted by someone a short while ago, I bought the new handle that C2 offers as an upgrade to my original straight wood handle a few years ago, and it was a definite improvement. With the older handle I used to switch my grip from over to under quite a bit more. With the new angled design handle it is not as comfortable to use an underhand grip, so I only switch to that for brief moments, and rarely.

I also use the New Grip hand pads, and on the seat use layers of padding - the grippy rowing seat pad someone mentioned here about a year ago, then the cheapie foam pad C2 sells, then a bubblewrap shipping envelope, then a nice soft microfiber shop cloth, which I swap for a dry cloth every so often during the really long rows. I have found that having a dry surface on the really long rows is the key to avoiding all kinds of evils, so I will even resort to changing my clothes mid-way during a marathon or longer rowing session.

The padding plus gradually increasing meters over a period of weeks is what works best for me to get in longer rows, especially for the challenges, as I only have the time and motivation to get on the rower once a day. I really envy you all with the internet bandwidth that allows you to access your movies online. I rely on the public library, but maybe during the Holiday Challenge will opt for a Netflix trial, and see how that works.

I want to also add my congratulations to MInnie on the 2 Mm season, and Andrea on the 4 Mm lifetime!

We have a large team with people who are able to row many different amounts of meters, and they are all good. We have quite a few people who are putting in amazing numbers of meters! :o (Which may be 50 km for some 1 Mm for others.)
Way to go team! B)

Well 27,

What have you been upto while I was away doing my rehab thing, HUM? Could it be a 2 million meter year? If so CONGRATS!!!!!!!

I'm almost back. My rehab walking has increased to 2 miles a day in 42 minutes. Next monday i am off restrictions and will have to work on finding time to walk and row. I snuck in a leasurely 3K today since it was raining.

Looking forward to having you back in the race, Grandpa Danno! Don't push yourself too hard ... unless, of course, it's raining. (It's raining here, too. This early in October?!? What's that about. Global wetting?)

I wanted to add my 2 bits on the subject of handles. I row a Model B erg, with an upgraded handle and a PM3 monitor. The switch to the newer angled and slightly flexible handle seemed to alleviate the blisters I got with the older foam covered handle that the model came with. I didn't notice any other differences with muscle or joint soreness, but I do prefer the newer handle.

While I'm at it, some have been sharing thoughts about viewing habits while rowing. I too stream Netflix on occasion while I row, and have found that I enjoy the extreme skiing movies from Warren Miller for rowing. I don't ski - well cross country, but not downhill, backcountry powder or anything. Still, these movies have a great combination of music and incredible skiing/snowboarding scenes, with only a bit of dialogue. The Model B I use is quite a bit louder than the newer models, so tuning in to a lot of talking doesn't work well.

Like I said, just my 2 bits. It's been a great Fall challenge and though I don't post often, I check the Lunatic team forum on most days and find a reason to smile, laugh, sometimes say a prayer, and put a few more meters behind me. Many thanks to all who make this such a great virtual team!

Yes, very nice to see you back! Take it easy!

Rowing today was therapy after a rather sad day in our neck of the woods, with three people dead in a shooting, schools in lockdown, and the death of Steve Jobs...
